The Skywalker looks the best, you'd certainly be seen and get a good view of the road ahead on it!

Also I'd like some FCN thoughts for them

I like the Skywalker bike - only problem I can see is that you might hit your head on low bridges or underpasses.......
  • In a former life, I had one of these as my second bike

When the main bike was in for some work for some time (eg removal of some seized part that necessitated a respray) I would commute on this. I even had those wheels.

It was hard not to attract attention.

What with me being so handsome and all. 8)

That statement can really be read the wrong way

Awesome bike tho Mr66! I saw someone on something very similar to that the first year I did the Freewheel!

Your tastes obviously haven't changed tho as I imagine the Cervelo isn't exactly a discrete commuting machine!

    Honestly?

    Pretty fcuking nice.

You can read all you like about how aero those bikes are. Then you get on one and ride, and you think "Holy sh!t, I'm flying!". It's not light and nor were the wheels, so it was never a sprint off the line bike. But wow, could it shift through the air.

I never had any problems with the suspension beam once it was set up. It's fiddly to set up though because you're locating the saddle in two planes (forward/aft and up/down) at the same time. And then when you sit on the beam it shifts down, and because of the pivot, backwards slightly.

Riding the beam was great. First, it smooths out your pedal stroke in nothing flat. Because if you don't have a smooth pedalling motion, you bounce the beam. It's a perfect positive feedback system. Second, you do nothing more than plant your weight on the saddle and the bike under you soaks up all the bumps (I even commuted on it out of choice for a while when I had a previous back episode). And because it soaks the bumps, you don't get thrown around and your pedalling doesn't get disrupted by them.

Downsides: tall headtube, so getting low at the front was tricky. I ended up using a stem with a negative angle. That plus an aggressive (virtual) seatpost angle meant that I was a long way forward, which mean handling was twitchy. At best. Tricky in tight traffic. Great in a straight line.

It is in black, which mine are. I used to have this

before I got the R3SL. Now *that* was a loud bike. And a hard ride too. I sold it for a number of reasons, but one was that I got fed up of feeling like I was driving a red Ferrari Enzo around town.

im very jealous of the TWO cervelos you have, especially as you can commute on them meaning two things:
    1. you can commute on a cervelo
    2. you have a job
  • Blimey.

That softride thing is mad as a box of frogs.

Kind of reminds me of an argos bike though...

I'd be tempted to put it in a stand and use that spring arm to launch kittens around the place

Cheer up lads. For reasons splattered all over this forum I'm not riding any bikes at the mo, and may not be doing so until next year. I'm commuting in my tin (alu, actually) box. It's slow, and painful. And I've just realised that the juniors can't go to swimming club tonight because I've got the car.

i didnt know Greg, i wont delve but i hope you get back on your bike soon!
  • An older guy in my former club had a Soft Ride and loved it. He basically got it for comfort so didn't mind the weight and the difficulty getting aero. He was mainly into Centuries so it was used on many long rides.
