A colleague commutes on a Speciazed flat bar road bike which has narrow road rims. Tired of punctures and thin tyres he would like to get some 28c Marathon Plus tyres. I have these on my touring bike but I am not sure if they will fit his rims. Similar in width to Mavic MA3's and Open Pro. He currently uses road tyres at 28c.

Any feed back much appreciated.

I've run 32mm Marathons on Open Pros no problem.

Gosh I would only have thought that possible on a touring rim.

Yes, there is a small risk of the tyre rolling-off the rim but I've never had it happen. Likewise, many people ride 32mm plus 'cross tyres on narrow road rims too.

    A 28 shouldn't be risky?

Even a Marathon Plus 28? They look bigger than normal 28's to me.
  • I've got 28c marathon plus's on my skinny rimmed hybrid. It used to have 28c tyres before as well so there will be no problem with your friends.

Thanks he has gone for the Marathon without the Plus as the scare stories of removal put him off!
