Hi all,
My GF's got a Halfords C2W voucher for a grand so we're on the lookout for a bike :D The price and considering she's about 5' 1" narrows down our search consderably. We live in Birmingham which is also a handicap but we managed to get a small 08 Safire for a weekend and she loved it - way too much money for us and waaay to technical as well! So we think the small Myka FSR 09 will fit just right.
We haven't been able to find anywhere that does a small Trek 5.5 wsd to try out. We tried Swinny's at Cannock Chase and theirs is a 15.5" ex8 which is too big. We even went to Leisure Lakes in Wolverhampton. They were useless tbh. Wouldn't even let her sit on or take a Trek for a quick spin, just said try a 13" bike, if you find one let us know and for 50 quid we'll get it in for you to try!!!! :x

Anyhoo, As the times fast approaching for us to blow her money, would it be too bad not to try a Trek? Which would you buy on spec alone?

Any help would be grately appreciated :)

PS. We do mainly X/C, nice long days out and the odd time we venture into trails so suspension is a comfort must!
Sink the eight ball. Buy the lady a drink. And nobody knows my name.

  • I may well not help you here, so sorry in advance...!

I had the same problem a few months back for my wife's bike: it came down to a choice of the Myka FSR and the EX5.5. We were fortunate enough to be able to try both of them at our LBS, though.

My wife is 5'3" and small. She found the Trek to have a more comfortable riding position and with the benefit of hindsight is really glad that she bought it. She's become pretty keen on biking as a result. I've got an EX8 and whilst the 5.5 isn't quite the same standard it's still a very good bike.

That's not to say the Myka isn't and I'm sure if you went for that your girlfriend would be very satisfied with it. However, if there's any way she can test the Trek - even just have a sit on it - I'd strongly recommend it.
