Seeing the fancy glasses at £120 on the review page made me think.

:?:
What are the cost saving alternatives you have found to some of the "through the nose" trendy items required for a comfortable commute.

Here is my bid:
A Pair of Bolle "Axis lightweight eyewear, grey lens" for £6.50 (from a well know electrical "Components" company)
Vs
Pair of Bolle Edge glasses for £79.99

My 3M workshop safety glasses were about a tenner and I've discovered they are fantastic for winter mountain biking.

Regatta windproof gloves £7.80 from an Outdoor Direct store.

Rode 15 miles off road last night in filthy conditions, hands nice and dry and warm.

25 mile road ride, dry but below zero, very ends of my fingertips a little cold but not uncomfortable.
  • My local Sports World has some really low price wintery looking gloves in stock at the mo.

Which makes me think , when was the last Aldi cycling goods event? We must be due for another one soon surely

I've got a pair of pulsafe tinted safety glasses, which at £5.40 are actually better than any normal sunglasses I've paid a hell of a lot more for in the past/
  • Shooting glasses are a good buy since the gun laws changed 'cos there are loads of stock still unsold. Winchester's are excellent just do a search .. you should be looking at abount £3 - 5 per pair.
I use clear, yellow tint or smoke grey and Ive found these to be brilliant. They are very much cheapness and at the moment... cheapness is good !!!!!

    Elvex make some crackers too.

I have a pair of Bolle safety glasses (although no link i am afraid) and I was struggling to detect much difference between those (~£6) and much more expesive cycle specific one.
Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

  • The tesco torches. 3 of them at a total cost of £30 giving as much light as setups costing a lot lot more.

Old inner tubes serve a multitude of uses. £10 for a chainstay protector? A bit of inner tube will suffice thank you very much.

Thanks for the link, the only problem I found was the cheapest delivery option was £13  or I would have had a pair.

  • How about a pair of B&Q heavy duty gloves? I tried them on in the shop and they were flexible, comfortable and, I bet, would offer alot of protection?

Retail at............£9,99 as opposes to £30+ for mtb gloves

    Would they be any good?

Try Screw fix £5 delivery for similar glasses:

    OR

Found an even better place (£1.50 postage)
They have a "Cycle" section in their index for gloves glasses which are really safety glasses.
