Yes, as above, the Lockblock is better than the Fenix Bike mount (which rattles and is more fiddly)

Thanks guys... is the Fenix bike mount man enough for the job?

Others have said it's a bit plasticky and rattley (though I've not used it myself). I use the LockBlock instead, which I've found to be ace. So ace in fact that it makes me wonder why all bike light mounts aren't this simple and functional...

Realistically for what your looking to spend the Fenix must be the only serious contender, but the Ayup's, as already mentioned, are superb.

The TK11 is a bit fatter but the Lockblock is rubber so should be okay. Yes, 1x 18650 is better.
  • I find deal extreme best (and cheapest) for batteries and chargers -a couple pairs of these, and this charger and bob's yer aunties husband! Delivery is fairly fast, and I've ordered a few times off them now without a problem

The Dealextreme chargers are the same as sold in the UK but will be cheaper, however, for safety I would go for AW cells which apparently have the best protection (which is important with lithium cells).
  • Also, the TK11 fits fine on both the lockblocks (one has both mounts inline, t'other has them at 90 degrees -the inline is great for helmet mounting, 90deg for the bars), but the L2D won't fit on the inline mount unless you make the body a little thicker (with inner tube pieces or tape). They are great mounts, simple, strong and effective!

just to add, the inline version is called the Bikeblock

Another vote for the lockblock over the Fenix mount, just in case.

Also, one great advantage/dis-advantage of the Fenix on burst mode is that it lights up every bit of reflective material around for 100's of meters, a true aid to SCR.

As i work my way up the bike routes through Islington going home in the evenings, every hi-viz jacket for miles around is blinking in the distance. I set myself targets for when I'm going to reel the next one in. Normally arrive home with plumes of steam coming of me and a loud knocking in my head - I think it's my heart going into meltdown.

    cheers

This is true. In action it is like some kind of crazy magic thing. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Love my Fenix - complete revelation in cycling lights

I find I can ride on the road on unlit roads with one Fenix on high - so thats about 5 hours ride time. Even on easy off road bits - one light is OK. But as alfa says - you dont just stop at one. So you get another for the helmet - which is good - so you can see round corners.

And then some git has to mention another wonder torch - so you end up with a P7 on the bars - that is completely different. Massive spread of beam but shorter run time and its funny batteries too - but fantastic piece of kit.

LOL That's the set up I've ended up with. Started with P2D, then got another, then the wonderously wide beamed and bright P7. Put one of the P2D's in my helmet. I now feel safer commuting in the dark than in the dusk or even daylight.
2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)

  • These are the only lights I use I do all my training in the dark hours of the morning & use them for xc racing too. Soon they will have a red lens cover available. I charge them at work, thanks boss

    Thanks for your suggestions guys

I went with the TK11 and blimey that's a strong beam, I rode home on the dimmed setting and it lit the way and people could see me with not problems... that ticks the boxes for me.

  • Been using a single Dinotte, powered by 4 rechargable AA batteries. My commute is all country lanes, pitch black and no street lights anywhere. Certainly man enough for the job and cost me £65 (including charger).
Been meaning to get another light as back-up but just carry spare batteries!!!
