New frame - BB and Headset fitting - LBS or me?

Hopefully very soon to have a new hardtail frame to replace my dented beyond repair downtube. All other parts on the bike are good and will be transferred onto the new frame. Avid juicy 5's etc....

What bits can I do? - I am a competant DIYer (household!) with little bike maintenance knowledge. I remember reading that it is good to have a LBS do the Bottom Bracket and the headset - facing?? (not sure what it is but sounds complicated). Could I manage the rest of the kit transfer?

How much is a rough estimate of cost for the headset and BB install.....

  • tenner (if that) for headset?

would the BB need facing seeing as though its a new frame? (a question that needs answering for my build!|)

if you do not have the tools get the LBS to do it.

The only thing I don't do at home is install (a)headsets and as bigbenj_08 says £10-£15 tos if you supply parts.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

It won't hurt to have the BB faced even if it is a brand new frame. May LBS did mine for free, but then I'd just bought £700 worth of bits to put on it.

Other things worth getting them to do would be put in the headset cups, maybe the star washer in the steerer tube and possibly the crown race on the forks. They'll have the tools to do it properly, whole lot shouldn't take more than 20 mins.

As for the rest it's easy enough if you take your time and have some basic bike tools. Just remember how things were on the old frame (take photos) before you take the bits off. If you can lay things like headset components out in the order they come off and note orientations of bearings etc. Just a few pointers from experience

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
