I thought it was double, triple or compact, it's a steep learning curve but if you don't ask.......................

A chainset that's suitable for use with a narrow 9 spd chain.
10 spd chains are slightly narrower than 9 spd and don't work well on 9 spd chainrings.
8 spd chains are slightly wider than 9 spd and will work fine on a 9 spd chainring.

so if i replace my rear 8 speed 12/25 cassette for a 11/26 one and my 52/42/30 chainrings for a shimano sora 3403 chainset with 50/39/30 will my chain not need to be shorter

Probably not. There is only 1 tooth (1/2 a link) difference.
