Hi
bought a cheap mountain bike on saturday. I live on national cycle route 55 so Sunday I got on route 55 and turned off into a local council owned field. I had a bloody great laugh even though I fell off twice.
Deep mud patches don't half make cycling hard work eh
Anyway, I get back onto route 55 to get home and just down the track there's a couple with 2 dogs, I slow down to a crawl, bloke shouts out "come on mate, you'll be alright", I carry on cycling towards them nice n slow and suddenly one of the dogs goes bonkers, runs straight at me barking, I do nothing thinking i'll be OK but it gets closer and forces me into the hedge, god knows how I kept my balance. I decide to 'pedal for my life ' and manage to get away safely, but not without nearly crashing.
If I hadn't of had SPD's on I'd have been sorely tempted to kick the damn thing as hard and as many times as I could. I gave the owner a "Keep the things under control you pr!ck" when I was a safe distance away from the dogs.
Im thinking of getting an air pistol for moments like these ...
Just thougth I'd get that off my chest ..

I know you're only joking, but seriously, don't. Not worth the risk of a 5-year mandatory stretch at Her Majesty's pleasure for carrying a firearm in public.
Plus it pisses people off who shoot legitimately.0 -
when i rode home from uni last week, there was a woman walking her dog. she noticed me coming and moved to the right hand side of the path. The dog was over the left hand side in the grass so i thought i'd sneak past quickly to get out of their way.
as it was very dull light i didnt notice that the dog was actually attached to a very thin black lead and nearly took the dog and woman with me...
then on the same path, there was two women with dogs stood in the middle of the path talking with their dogs off the lead and jumping around everywhere. I slowed to a crawl to pass them (i was forced onto the grass as they refused to move from the middle of the path) and one of the dogs jumped out directly infront of me.. i skidded in the mud and nearly took it out.
the woman just stood there and laughed, to which i explained how i could have killed her dog/sued her if i had been injured because she wasn't in control of the dog. we then exchanged a few sweary words and i went on my merry way. (she was one of those posh Londoners with her head up her arse).
the very worst one i've come across was a group of "because your rich we'll walk your dog for you" people. Comprising of 4 walkers and about 12 dogs, some on leads and some off. I didnt have a chance of cycling past!
I hate inconsiderate dog walkers.....PICK UP YOUR CRAP!!0 -
Dogs
Yesterday I was just cycling along and up ahead there's an elderly couple with two medium-sized dogs. As always, the bloke goes and stands on one side of the track and his missus goes to the other side, leaving a 600.1 mm gap for me and the two bewildered mutts.
Bloke calls the dogs and they run right in front of me but with a bit of skill (luck) I avoid them. Just as I'm about to get the f**k out of there, she calls one of the dogs over and the pooch ambles out straight in front of me. "Ooh sorry, it was my fault I shouldn't have called him ooh sorry" etc etc.
Another day another dog :evil:0 -
Shoot them all.
The people I mean, the dogs don't know whats happening, their bloody owner should though.0 -

There's a huge hill with two roads down it (Technically Glanfernon hill, Colloquially Bitch hill and Ba***rd hill) on my way to lecture. I happened to encounter a large dog, and his inattentive owner wandering up the seldom used road. I happened to be doing a nice 34mph at the time, swerved to avoid them, hit an iced over drain cover, unclipped and put a foot down, and just managed to avoid bouncing down the hill on my hip, the dog owner looked at me and said "Should be more bloody careful, you ignorant prick", i pointed out that as he and his dog were covering the entire of the road, whilst ignoring the pavement, he was damn lucky i wasn't a car, and that he should mind his language if he wanted me to maintain my self control.

You showed more restraint than I would have done, would have belted the cheeky fuck.0 -
You should check my thread "I dont mean to offend anyone but" its on here somewhere.
I feel your pain bro. :-)0 -
Dog owners seem to assume that their dogs are harmless. I remember being bitten by a dog which was on a lead (!) once while running. The owner just looked shocked and said "He's never done that before" as if this was an excuse. I think he may have been waiting for me to apologize for making his dog bite me.Andy0

Ah well that's different. The dog saw a runner and just wanted to cheer you up!!0
