Just broke my Suntour XCR forks

Greetings, :D

My suspension gave up on me today. I am (or was) using the standard Suntour XCR forks on my Diamond Back hardtail. It seems like the damping has disappeared and they are now fully extended, although I can bounce them through their range.

Any ideas? Is this fixable? Do I want this to be fixable  ?

I think that it might be time to replace them with something else; I guess almost anything will be an improvement but I don't really know where to start or what to look for.

Top tips anyone (or anywhere?).

Also, how easy is it to change them myself?

Cheers!

Need to know exactly which model and year of XCR really! But I doubt they can be easily fixed - service guides can be got from Suntour website though.

Definitely an excuse to replace, by the time you've factored in labour and repairs (assuming you can find someone to repair them / parts) you'll be half way to the cost of a new (much better) fork. :D
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Thanks - that made it all much easier to justify...

The bike is now in for surgery for some new RockShox.

I am now the proud owner of some (installed) Rockshox Dart 3 with poploc. LBS was more expensive than online, for sure, but got free fitting and, of course, no shipping so I'm a happy bunny.... and I was only bike-less for a day.

Yes - they are the 2008 version.

They''re immediately noticeably better than my Suntours on the ride home, but it's going to be a few weeks before I get to work them hard as I have to go away with work  and then its Christmas :o

The poploc is a novelty at the moment. I don't know how much I'll use it.

    Cheers!
