Ah, glad its not just me
I thought it was being intercepted by a spy before it came to me judging by the amount of addresses it seemed to be logging before my email address. My Road Bike:-

Soni, Tranced,
Can you let us know how you read your email - via webmail in a browser, or a program like Outlook Express, thunderbird etc?
Is this a new issue, or one you've experienced since you joined the forum?

Hi Steve,
No i was originally receiving notifications fine without any problems, was clicking the hyperlink and it was taking me straight to the page/thread, however recently, probably over the last 2 weeks, its been coming through as above......
I am using MS Outlook as i have allways been doing to view my emails......

I'm receiving mails via Outlook. (10.2605.2605)
Happens both at home & work.
Two different machines. One Vista & one XP.
Message reads:
"You are receiving this email because you are watching the topic, "Purpose= ly training on heavier bikes?" at BikeRadar. This topic has received a re= ply since your last visit. You can use the following link to view the rep= lies made, no more notifications will be sent until you visit the topic.
http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopi ... 3#15069423"
Whether I either click on the link or c&p it into IE I get basically:
"The topic or post you requested does not exist"
Use this addy & use should see exactly what I do "http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3D15069423#15069423"
If however I do a search for a word in the subject field I am able to find the thread & read new posts.
Been this way since I registered.
BTW... I do clear cookies every few days. Makes no difference.
Hope that helps.Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0 -
If it's any help, the problem with the links is that there is a rogue "3D" after the "p=" If you take the 3D out, it works, so now you just need to figure out how & why the 3D is getting in there...0

A lucky spot - I just happened to have my emails open whilst I was reading your thread and saw my notifications were lacking that pesky 3D. Hopefully Steve will work some magic. :?0

The 3D is related to a technical issue where emails are encoded and decoded in transit. For some reason, your email software is not decoding the messages and you are seeing extra characters in your messages.
I've implemented a possible solution. Let me know if it seems to be working now?

I see what you're saying, but I'm using straight forward Outlook. I receive notifications from a host of forums & it's only here that I experience this.
I'll wait for the next notification & let you know.Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0 -

This article here talks more about what I believe the issue is. See the 2nd bullet point scenario. Although this is for Outlook 2003, it appears the issue also affects other versions:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951982
We've also updated parts of the forum to use the latest changes from phpBB. I'm not sure this will fix the issue. Please let us know either way.0 -
Afraid the notification for this latest updat to this thread still not working.
FYI... if I delete the 3D as mentioned above, page refreshes & I see the same "The topic or post you requested does not exist"
Interesting that it's just the result return frame that is showing error. All the Header etc are fine.Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0 -
Hi Guys, whatever has been done since this morning has made the problem even worse.
Before, when the thread couldn't be displayed, i could just delete the 3Dout of the top bar and it would display the thread.
However, now when i do it, it still can't find the thread?????
I now have to go through the forum looking for it manually.....My Road Bike:-

I can solve the missing topic issue. That's probably because we added some test posts to trigger the notification system and then deleted the posts afterwards. Links to the test posts will return the error message you are seeing.
Your link to this post should work, once you've removed the 3D that is.
According to this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870929
Your release of Outlook appears to be one of the older ones. Have you tried updating to Office XP service pack 3? This link may help:

Nope sorry. Still no joy.
The 2 links in the e-mail message appears as:

http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopi ... ch=3Dtopic
Interesting both end up with the 3D.
Hey, it's not a train smash, just a bit of a pain, Strange though how few folk seem to have experienced it.Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0 -

Saw that & yes, If I remove them, it works, but I'd love to know where the heck they come from..... e.g. this thread... it's easier/ faster to just search for "notification"Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0

Ok, we have put out a new change to try and fix this. Once again, we have been unable to test it since we can't get our Outlook to reproduce the problem. Please let us know how it goes?
Fingers crossed0 -
Wow! Well done folks. It's working for me.
Thanks a mil.
What did you change?Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0 -
Hi Steve, top man!!!
It works fine, was quite strange seeing an email notification from Bike Radar that wasn't over a screen full of text and without 3D in the hyperlink!!
Thanks again Steve, its nice to see a forum interested in sorting out a problem like this, as it was only a minority that was experiencing the problems.
Top marks!

Thanks for the feedback. We aren't always aware of problems and your help lets us improve BikeRadar for everyone.
Tranced - what did it in the end was changing the 'To' from 'undisclosed-recipients' to a real looking email address. For some reason that makes all the difference.0 -
Possibly some mail servers spam traps doing something then.
A non-recoqnisable "To" addy is seen as possible spam & tampered with to protect recipients.
Guess that could happen at any one of 1000's of possible mail hops between sender up until recipient mail inbox.
But... well done & again thanks. It's great to see real time response on a forum.Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0
