Can i put a deore shifter on the back even though it's from a 9 speed bike?
and the gear shifters will be 8 speed

They work on either 8 or 9 speed.

The shifter has to match the number of cogs in the cassette.

8 speed shifter will not work with a 9 speed cassette.

9 speed shifter will not work with an 8 speed cassette.

Unless you mean rear derailer (just reread your 1st post, I guess you mean that) then you can use a 9 speed mech on 8 or 9.

A shifter is the bit on the bars.
