Does replacing them with fancier ones make much of a difference? The man in the shop said so... But he was trying to sell them to me!

They look dead smart - but will I get £35 worth of extra speed out of them?

They won't make any noticeable difference, but if you got a good bike with good components what's £35 anyway?

Get them! Red jockey wheels would look quality on my good bike, but I think that £35 will soon need too be spent on tyres and some new bar tape

As the ad says, it's for high end componentry, so I spend elsewhere if you have anything lower than Dura Ace or Record.

Exactly. And decent tyres and wheels aint that much either so upgrading those will make more of a difference. :)

You know, I really wanted you guys to tell me to get the little wheels! Come on, they LOOK cool, and that will motivate me to go extra fast. Or something!

Don't get them unless the old ones are broken. Instead go on a long long bike ride and spend the money on a slap-up cream tea :D

  • there's a review from bikeradar at the bottom of the wiggle page:

"You won't notice a massive difference in performance, but if you're looking for every little edge then these are a simple upgrade, and they're certainly durable. "

sounds like a waste of £35... but when has that ever stopped us :D

£35 would be better spent on some tools for your bike (you get your money back in the long run) or on some spare chains to keep in reserve. These jockey wheels look nice, but not £35 nice, if they were a tenner or less then maybe...

But then again, it's your money.

It's simple really. If you love your bike and want it to have the best, then buy them. If not, well...

Dodgy, go on, spend £35 on some spare chains and see what satisfaction that gives you :)

I think they look great. Are you getting yourself an Xmas present? If not, these are it!

£35 jockey wheels are what you buy when every other part of your bike is blinged beyond blingness.

Carbon one piece bars and stem? Check
    Sub 1 KG frame? Check
Strong and light wheelset < 1500 grams? Check
    Decent basic tool kit? Check
    blah blah? Check

Bling jockey wheels are the icing on the cake, it's not what you buy first, particulary when you don't even know what they're called...

Don't see why not. It says it's 9-speed. Is your bike 9-speed?

My mighty old Shimano rear mech had red jockey wheels and it was only worth about £6 new, so I reckon coloured jockey wheels aren't all that natty. They were made of plastic though.

    .

I've got to agree with that statement. Even as bling they don't do much. I really don't think I have ever looked at jockey wheels on someones bike. Then again, I'm thinking about getting DA electronic for my my bike as a 60th birthday present to myself and don't really
know why I would do that, other than I can. So get what you want but don't expect it
to make you a better rider or racer. Real performance gains are in the motor.

A 9-speed chain would work with a 7-speed cassette, given that the internal dimensions are the same. The 9-speed would be narrower on the outside than it needs to be for a 7-speed, so while it may not last quite as long as a similar 7-speed chain, it would certainly do an acceptable job.

See Sheldon Brown's words on this.
  • Get the jockey wheels, they're sweet and will definately speed you up plus all the laydees will be on you like flies on sh1t 8)
Also where can i get a red chain? They're discontinued on that site and would look sweet on my winter bike.........

Yes, it's Mark Anthony so all the many caveats and disclaimers apply, although I have to admit that on the few things I've bought from him I've not had a problem.

  • While wasting an hour drooling over expensive clothes and bits in Condor Cycles at the weekend (annoyingly I was denied spending the hard earned as they didn't have my size) I noticed that they had some red and blue coloured chains in the front display cabinet.

They'd be my first port of call for odd gadgetry..
