Are Sustrans renumbering their routes?

I noticed this morning that a lamp post sticker (generally useless for following at speed) that used to have the Number 1 on it in Wormit now carries the number 777.

This was one of the many options on route 1 through Fife, and i suppose it doesn't make sense to have the same number for different routes but 777?
7 is Inverness to Carlisle, 77 Branches off that at Ballinluig to Dundee, so does 777 branch off the 77 at Perth?

They should have used a numbering system more in-line with the MOT zone numbering system, NCN 1 goes in the opposite direction from the A1. (Ignore Motorway Nubmering in England and Wales it's totally separate from a road numbering)

hm even more confusing, it's in fife so even if it is a regional route rather than national and has been given the wrong coloured back ground it still cant' be a 7** number and has too many figures.

Going to go out and check i wasn't hallucinating.

Had a look at their website again today, the maps now show it as route 777 and lots of updates in "November" where they said "June" the other day!

Seems 3 figure numbers are here.

Sunderland -> Carlisle -> Glasgow -> Inverness is a bit odd for a single number (7)

The branching of numbers makes sense, but the seemingly random choice of routes for those numbers less so.
