Best Route advice in SW London - Google maps alternatives

Looking (hoping) to start a new job soon, subject to interview, looking up possible route options on Google Maps http://maps.google.co.uk/ and the results are quite different in terms of direction, but not that different in distance.

Can someone advise a choice of route?

I'm going from KT6 4 (don't want to be too specific!) to Criffel Avenue SW2, walking option is all over the place but slightly shorter at 10.1 miles. By car it runs up the A3 by comparison and is 10.9 miles.

Knowing what cycling can be like and that a longer but faster route can be quicker and better if there are fewer lights, wider roads, not having to get turn across tricky junctions etc, can anyone familiar with that kind of route suggest which might be better or alternatives?

I'll be looking to do a practice run before I start the commute anyway, and checking against LCC maps too, but some feedback would give me a better start.

Cheers!

I don't know if I'd actually use all those main roads myself but if you're not familiar
with South West and South London it's a good starting point.

you can avoid the Bushey road and A24 by coming over towards Morden/Morden Rd and Mitcham but you're just adding miles to your journey, though thats no bad thing if it avoids lights and heavier traffic ( i add miles to my own SM6 to EC4 journey in fact )

    Thanks.

Just in London today and looking at the cycle maps of the area I was thinking of doing something similar.

Will have to find out what its like in practice, but first have to get the job to go to!

The plus of SW London is, in my experience, that the road surfaces are on average better than in the rest of the capital. Of course you still get a lot of crappy ones but overall it's a more pleasant experience.
