After ordering 2 sets of sintered pads from CRC, a pack of sintered and a pack of semi metallic plus pads showed up. Seems the sintered ones are out of stock so i am staying with the two types. What type should i put on the front and what for the back? Brakes are Giant MPH if that makes any help.

    Have you ordered them?

If not, try SuperstarComponents for some good pad deals. Got all my MPH pads from there.

I would put sintered on the front as they are more hard wearing and front "usually" takes more of a hammering.

I ordered 2 the sintered ones and it was only once they arrived that i noticed they sent a pack of semi mettalic ones. Even the invoice said i ordered 2 packs of sintered. Will buy from superstar next time. Strangely it was the rear pad that wore out first which would suggest the sintered one should go to the rear.

  • I'd go sintered on the rear if you ride xc. The rears do the slowing, the front the stopping. You usually wear the rears first as they are the ones you drag when descending.

  • Roughly how many miles can I expect to get out of a pair of sintered pads. My current mbike ride is the first I've had with discs, done about 1500 miles so far mostly xc / moors etc and given the summer mostly in the wet.

very roughly how often should they be changed - they still work like new.

from what ive seen they can vary in wear rates massively. best to just keep an eye on them
  • Never even had them out!! suppose I'd better have a look at the weekend.

Too busy riding to tinker :D

dont need to take them out normally... just look down through the top of the caliper and you can see how much meat is left.
  • Thanks for the help.

Depends where you ride.I've trashed a rear set of Avids sintered in less than 20 wet miles in the Peak District.I was going through a rear set EVERY ride  Bedding them in is the key, latest set have done 400 wet miles 8)
