Theres already a thread for stolen, and also on most other cycling forums. I would be reluctant to post too many details online.
Bike theives are scum. The police need to take this type of crime seriously and start taking preventative measures - anyone see that CTC film? When you think that a cycle costs as much or more than some of the cars on the roads (mine is worth more that most I see here if I'm being honest)...0 -
i had my bike stolen about 2 years ago, on that particular day i was late for an exam and decided to just lock it on a public bike rack for a few hours rather than take it into a secured uni facility. and then it was gone: broad day light in south ken. (70 quid d-lock)
since my bike was quick heavily customized, i found it on gumtree 2 weeks after that and the police send an undercover officer to first identify the bike (but didn't buy/take it) and then secretly followed the seller to find out where he took the bike. the following evening at about 11 they sent in a team to storm the flat and recovered 9 stolen bikes including mine. since it was stolen in south ken and the flat was in battersea, it was a collaboration between the belgravia and wandsworth police.
i have been happily and securely riding my bike since, never looked at the met police the same way again, i seriously respect those guys.0
