I like the look of the rapha lightweight softshell jacket but i didn`t fancy paying full price for it.Well it is a bit steep at £175.Anyway,with the credit crunch and all the city types {wankers}losing their jobs i thought they might be reducing their prices soon so i asked them if there was any discounts. It might sound cheeky but if you don`t ask you don`t get and i have spent hundreds with them this year.Did i get a reply?Did i buggery.Well they can take their softshell and shove it up their soft arses,i`ll take my business elsewhere.Shame,it looks so nice.

So because they won't give you a discount when you asked they're evil? You know they don't operate out of Morroco.

They'll have a sale in the new year, they usually do.

As they say on Pretty Woman, "if you have to ask the price, you probably cannot afford it, madam"

They could have at least replied even if it was to say no,is that too much to ask?It is not uncommon to get a discount in a smart clothes shop,in fact it is the norm and not just in Morroco.
I am lucky enough to be able to afford it but whether it`s worth the money is a different matter.I`ve bought a Giordana now for less than half the price and it might well be a better jacket and better colours.Oh and thanks for the tip about the sales, maybe i`ll give them another chance.

  • From the email I got the other day (somehow I am on their mailing list ..)

Give thanks for Black Friday. Two days off work means two more days to go riding. To help you make the most of this extra ride time, we'd like to offer you a 10% discount on all purchases made between Wednesday 26th November and Monday 1st December.
Simply enter code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout on www.rapha.cc.
[BLACKFRIDAY Code is case sensitive and should be in all caps please.]

Thanks for that, now I am more annoyed, not only did they not send it to me {a good customer}but they didn`t even tell me when I asked. That`s why I don`t like paying full price when everyone else is getting discounts.WTF is Black Friday anyway?I presume it`s a city thing. It does confirm that I was right to ask about discounts even if the c###s wouldn`t tell me.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and a traditional day for heavy discounting in the US

How do you know what was said in pretty woman  ? I have had to sit through it on several occasions and all I can recall is that there is a Lotus Esprit in it :P

Dude, if all you can remember is the esprit, you must be dead from the waist down. I at least remember some legs :!:

Actually, I made it up from dimly remembered fragments of the "great" shopping scene.

Much more fun than car-spotting when embarking on the movie with one's best gal for the 25th time, is to play spot the body-double. Bearing in mind that not all the screen shots of the eponym contain images of Julia Roberts herself, the game you can play is "whose tits, *rse, unfeasibly long legs etc. are those?". No points for mouth, though - no two women on the planet have a set of gnashers as extensive as JR's, so they are always going to be the real thing! :D

One tip, try not to play it out loud. That seems to be the equivalent of saying "it's only a game" when your team has gone 1 behind with two minutes to play in the Champions League final.

Rapha do have sales on from time to time - and go to the Crits they have too - they sell seconds at riduculous prices. No hang on - they sell their normal kit at ridiculous prices - in the sales - its more like normal kit. :-)

What is your problem? Do you read The Mail? Do you think that every single worker in the City is (a) responsible for the worldwide financial crisis and (b) on multi-million pound bonuses?

I know guys who have mortgages to pay and families to feed, and who cannot in any sense be described as architects of their own downfall. Show a little humility, rather than bucketfuls of ignorance.

Of course I am not referring to everyone who works in the city.I`m sorry if you lost or are about to lose your job but a lot of wankers do work in the city,to be fair.

The same can be said to be true of any industry, can't it?

What are you basing your perception of the City on? Newspaper headlines? Outrage at people's variable compensation?

  • Having spent 24 years working in The City my impression is the Wanker% is no greater, and prehaps a little less, than the population in general.

And it's certainly lower than your average internet forum. It's a simple view of the world from the Student Bar, isn't it Antfly?

  • Sorry but IMHO Rapha is the biggest joke on the planet as well as the biggest rip off and con, for one the clothng is very poorly designed, they make a very weak & laughable effort to be some sort of Anges B, Paul Smith for cyclists and charge piss taking amounts for it under the veil of it being designer?? Sorry but if you wanna look like Paul Smith on the bike then you deserve being shafted up satans alley, and what was all that nonsense about investing in the team so you can get some sort of meet and greet of big fish in little pond premier calender riders, everybody knows they can't get a third sponsor so they thought 'why not come up with another plan to rip of the daft and gulable'. You cannot take these lot serious. Nalini in disguise.

Love the generalisation. Tens of thousands work in the city and 'a lot' of them (or us actually as I am one of them) are wankers.......

Ops, sorry, no - just the 'city types'. What are they exactly?

So the gripe is that because you can't get a cheaper jacket (or the purveyors of what seems to be a very overpriced jacket won't reply to your email), it's because of 'a lot' of 'city type wankers' in the city?

    Priceless.

Anyway, lets' assume you want a 20% discount. Is there nothing else out there for £140 (still a lot of money) that you just can't see yourself in 'this season'?

Will any of these simply not do?

To be fair, cities probably have the same % twats of society that the countryside has.

But cities are more densely populated, making the idiots stand out more.

You can judge this by behaviour on the roads. I do 70miles in North Wales and I rarely see stupidly bad driving, when I do 70miles around Manchester, there are normally multiple incidents of retarded driving.

I take it you must have had a bad experience with Rapha clothing? Didn't fit properly, not up to standard or comparable with other kit you have, or just outside of your price range?

Me, I prefer not to ride around looking like an advertising hoarding so Rapha suits, plus it fits well and so far I have had no issues with quality, the price is up there, but then again so is my salary

Oh, and BTW I don't work in the city or for a bank..
