Have a look in the beginners section for a similar thread and good info.

Many types of drinks though, for different circumstances.
  • I've found PSP22 is the best to drink during a big ride.

Its helped me get through a few 24 hour races.

I find a good old bottle of coke at lunch helps if I'm having a up-lift day.

A Can of Monster or Relentless gives me a hell of a kick, but all these Redbull, Monster, Relentless, Kick drink are really just Sugary water with a whack of Caffine.

Personally they seem like a bit of a catalyst, they get me really pumping for a couple of hours and then I'm totaly spent. Great for 2-3 hours on the trail or a morning and afternoon session on the uplift. I doubt they're any good for a serious endurance event.

Have to be careful that these drinks don't dehydrate you - anything above 8% sugar is hypertonic and will take water out of your gut.

This is why I think a hypo or isotonic drink is good, or if taking a lot of food (with salts and minerals), just plain water or diluted cordial.

However for a quick boost are good.
