Rain jacket

Now then, I am very much enjoying cycling around in a long-sleeve jersey and bib tights rather than my usual Altura bin-bag jacket. I don't sweat like an inappropriate metaphor, and I'm less like a sail.

However, since I've been wearing it, I've also been carrying said Altura jacket with me in my pannier bag in case of rain. Now normally, I wouldn't mind getting wet - I'll dry - but I've been going out for dinner/drinks quite a bit on my way home, and so would be keen to stay dry.

But carrying the Night-Vision around with me seems a bit excessive.

Any recommendations for a lightweight, compact waterproof/resistant jacket? You know, those ones that scrunch up to the size of a cricket ball? Are they waterproof?

I just carry an emergency dhb gilet. Good enough so far for the 45mins of commute and is not a parachute :)

It'll keep you dry for a bit, fine for quickish journeys in the rain and scrunches up tiny.

+2 , they have got good reviews and CRC have got them on sale.

If I didn't have so many hi-viz rain proofs i would go for one, apparently they are paper thin, you dont sweat in them but they are not fit for going thru brambles either :?

I had a marmot precip (not cycling specific) for a few years, got very good service from it and it's super lightweight.

Montane featherlite is fine in a quick shower but soon leaks during prolonged rain. Tis V breathable though. Altura "pocket rocket" packs up V small and is much more waterproof.

It's a good job it's £20 more and Wiggle don't have it in stock otherwise I would be very annoyed :P

LiT, I have the montaine featherlite, which as others say is good for a shower but not serious rain.

I also recently bought the heavier duty, although still very light and small Montaine Velocity DT. This is a very good jacket for keeping out the rain but a bit "boil in the bag" if your riding hard. Also not cheap.

Montane featherlite is an awesome jacket, bagged mine earlier this year when JE James were knocking them out for £25.

Bought my gf the womens specific cut: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=32893

    And she uses it loads.

Bizarrely I put on all the hi-viz boil-in-the-bag for work then went out for a blast today on my day off and found myself dressed from head to toe in black.....

Still alive to tell the tale :D
