I'm just been given a shiny new laptop from work and want to keep it that way while cycling in.
Does anyone have any recomendations for paniers? I can't use rucksacks or messenger bags as I just end up with sholder/neck pain

I have the Altura Orkney pannier bags on a Tortec ultralight rack secured with p-clips.
The bags are great - they've kept everything dry. However, if you're carrying them a long way off the bike, the clip can rub a bit.
I would also obtain one of those neoprene laptop cover/case things - compact and protect the case of the laptop from scratches.0 -
Altura make a Laptop/Briefcase pannier, I have one, totally waterproof, laptop remains perfect, about £45. Ortlieb make a better "Office" pannier, but pricier one, you can fit an Ortlieb Notebook insert. I would go for Ortlieb, but the Altura has been fine. The waterproofing on the Altura relies upon an extra waterproof inner lining, whereas the Ortlieb's are waterproof by virtue of the outer fabric. The Altura is therefore heavier and has less internal space. The Ortlieb rack fittings are superior too.0

I am afraid it just gets shoved in a plastic supermarket bag, in my non waterproof snowboarding backpack circa 1993.....Has survived 2 years so far.0

Hi
I'd also recommend the use of one of the neoprene sleeves - try & get as close a fit as possible. Crumpler is a good brand.
You can buy single panniers - like these

I use something similar & it's sufficient to carry laptop, waterproof jacket & spares/tools.
If you needed to carry more on a regular basis - then a pair of panniers would be better.

I have the Altura bag mentioned above. Not had any problems. I also use it as a briefcase when seeing clientsand don't get any raised eyebrows. overall very happy with it.FCN 8
