Which flat pedals for Trek 6700

Yes, I know the 6700 I have just bought seems to deserve SPD's, but I just cannot bring myself to try them at this early stage. The pedals and locking in with specific riding shoes is not for me until I am more experienced.
So I searched these forums and looked at many reviews on the main website, but it still left me not sure. All of the flat pedals that I look at seem so chunky and heavy.
What I am really looking for is something a little smaller and very sleek.
Can anyone suggest anything good or a little bit different to have a gander at?

Wellgo MG1 or Slim Jims are about the best on the market at the minute for reasonable money.0

Thanks for that... if you mean the Gusset Slim Jim Pedals, I looked at the sealed ones and they look pretty cool in white.
Would you class them as quite compact (or slim as the name suggests)?
Are they quite light compared to others, as 540g sounds heavy?
And lame question, what are the pokey up bits for, grip?My webby: http://www.geekanoids.co.uk0 -
Yes, are a narrow profile. 540g is quite heavy.
Wellgo MG1 are a litlle thicker, buit 170g lighter, and as standard has sealed cartridge bearings. The pins are for grip.0 -
Thanks Supersonic, I checked out the Slim Jim Magnesium which at 425g are still 50g heavier than the Wellgo MG1.
I like the look of both.
Do you happen to know how the paint lasts on the Wellgo's?
And (sorry for all the questions), do you think I am mad sticking with flats, as I am scared of SPD's. I have only just started back. Mainly road and very light trails. My webby: http://www.geekanoids.co.uk0 -
No, I think starting on flats is the way to go! Gives you confidence as you learn new skills and get used to the bike, and teaches you how to bunnyhop and weight shift properly. Taking these skills through to SPDs will make you a better SPD rider.
Paint seems to last ok - mixed responses. Doesn't bother me, mine seem fine.0 -
Thanks so much for all your advice, MG1's on order and looking forward. My webby: http://www.geekanoids.co.uk0
