Surely FB will also have objections

Please don't get the group closed down, start a new one.

TBH I didn't think FB monitored groups and posts anywhere near the way that Bikeradar do do they?

Anyways, am happy to start a new group if we need to but I didn;t want to spread things to thin if you see what I mean.

This alleycat thing sounds right up my street ('scuse pun!). I'm not on FB, can someone PM me to let me know the details please.

    Will FCN handicapping take place?

Guys, hate to be the sensible one here...but since when did the silly commuting race actually become a race??

Surely the tag line "It's not a race" is a big clue

Alleycat races are one thing, but silly commuting racing is just that silly, it's not serious, it's not racing, it's certainly not dangerous OR illegal. Which I fear is what the brizzle event could be.

There's no harm in SCR, but a (dis)organised event could lead to all sorts of trouble, all it would take is one numpty RLJ and getting squished in the process, and that would be that.....RLJ is one thing RLJ and street racing is summut completely different. You'd have no control on the entrants, no knowledge of their experience, they might never have been on a bike, then think "that sounds a laff" go out go under a car, and then will you still think it was a good idea??

If you wanna set something up and running fine, put please don't associate it with the SCR. I'd hate to see the good name of SCR and Greg T's big ring dirtied!

  • OK here's my take on it.........
I agree with Snooks that the SCR started out originally as the great un-spoken race to work and in trying to convert it to a proper race you loose part of the essence.

The organised ride idea appeals to me a bit more tho, I've often looked at the local cycles near me and wanted to go out for their rides but owing to family commitments I couldn't really justify disappearing (well I could just about could to myself, but the wife would divorce me after a fortnight!) for a whole day each weekend. Plus my 2 options for the most local clubs are the Addiscombe CC that have groups based on average speed so I could choose the one I'm most comfortable in, but they don't meet anywhere near Addiscombe (sorry if any members read this but Coulsdon just isn't Addiscombe!) and the other is the Pollard Hill cycle club, which looks more like the occasional riders club so I think I'd always be wanting to go faster then them!

The point I was trying to make is that ITB got me thinking when he said he's planning out some routes, we have plenty of players in the main cities, maybe it would be nice for each person to plan out some routes in their neck of the woods and then other SCRer's could come down for a ride?

As for publicising it, we could promote it as a good way of demonstrating what can be achieved simply by cycle commuting. For me personally it's probably the most exercise I get and I don't think I have yet appreciated what level of base fitness I have built up from the regular riding, especially since the conception of SCR as no journey is done at anything less "not quite trying" effort levels!

Yeah! *Cocks a snook at Snooks

I agree in principle - if anything happens it will be entirely divorced from SCR. RLJ ing will be banned, afterall it's all about best route selection.
  • Scavenger hunt gets a thumbs up from me :-) it could be the SCSH?

Of course I'm sure with all these brains on here we can come up with a funnier acronym :-)
