Hi all,

Bought one of these from Wiggle a couple of months back. A couple of weeks ago it stopped working - investigation showed that water had leaked in and corroded all the battery conenctions. Sent it back and wiggle (as always) replaced with no fuss and even refunded the postage. However, after a couple of week's use this new one is also letting water in.

Did I get a bad batch or is this just the way it is??? I am wondering if when i send it back I shuold get ANOTHER replacement or go for something different?

Rich

Assume you mean the rear light?

I have even jetwashed mine (slightly by mistake!!) and it's been fine.
I don't rate the front 610 though - very flimsy.

If I had two faulty items with the same problem, I'd go and find another product.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I got the top one that has 5 led's top and bottom, dont know the model number, but trust me that has taken a heavy beating of rain and mud, and also me even washing it, and its as good as they day I bought it.

Yes, sorry - rear light. It seems the slide door for the battery compartments just lets water in - only a bit but enough to start the batteries and the contacts corroding. :( Shame as I love the size and look of it.

I'll look out for that on mine then!

Can you contact Cateye direct or speak to someone at Wiggle? It's a pain in the butt to get something replaced if it happens again.

It is a really good light though - mega bright but light too.

I'm looking at the Knog as a replacement - anyone tried these??

  • either wrap electrical tape round the seam or open it and leave it in the warm overnight.

I've got the 1100, (mentioned above) and it is really well sealed, rubber o-rings on the threaded parts, but you still have to be wary of condensation when getting it suddenly cold, hence i store mine without the batteries in and without the cap on. Not a lot more you can do really.

Ah - the 610 has no rubber seals, just a slide cover for the batteries. I looked at the 1100 but it is a big beast! Have been letting mine air-dry, batteries out, after each ride but the corrosion is still starting (albeit slower).
  • The 1100 is squat, it is narrower than yours but a lot fatter, so it doesn't take up too much room, it basically covers the back of my saddle pack.

Cateye have had a few probs lately.

I'd get a couple of Smart 0.5W Superflashes.

ok - I am going to send the Cateye back and try a Knog Gekko instead - it looks more waterproof and certainly more funky :)
