I have a Trek 1.5 double. I was thinking of upgrading to Ultegra. I want to keep my front crank and derailleur. Could I simply put on a 10 speed casette and derailleur? Would I have to change the front crank and derailleur? I currently have a 9 speed casette + derailleur.

Cheers

you would have to change the front shifters chain and cassette definetly... as the shifters have to match the cassette

You could get awy with the crank, front mech, and rear mech, left as is , but wouldnt be optimal , and leaving sora rear mechs on for example arnt going to give you great shifting, which if your paying the outlay for the ultegra shifters, would be disapointing i would expect...

The rear mech is Tiagra, which is currently running a 9 speed, would it work on the 10 speed?
  • No, but more importantly you need to worry about the shifter...

You only NEED to change the cassette, chain and shifters. The rest will work fine until you decide to change them.
