Do you think he likes Rapha?

I love my Rapha kit - but all bought in the sales. My long sleeve top is almost too nice to wear on the bike - it may get muddy - but its nice as a casual top !
I dont think I'll be doing a blog and posing for photos any time soon though.0 -
I sort of admire him in a way. I mean, it's obvious that that sort of eccentric behaviour is going to draw ridicule, but it seems he doesn't really care. His daily life seems to involve riding his bike, writing a blog, and taking photos - can't be bad really.0

I can't say if Rapha kit is any good or not, but I can say that bizarre marketing like this puts me off. I feel that if I did go out and buy Rapha kit, I was condoning this sort of thing, and could even somehow see myself in those photos. Sat under that tree. Reading that copy of "Rouleur". In head to toe Rapha. Looking like a ****.
I think you're missing the fact that this is nothing to do with Rapha as a company, this is some dude who is a little too obssesed with Rapha kit, waxing lyrical about their stuff.
I reckon his plan is to bum some freebies off Rapha for being so loyal, probably get himself a free calendar like I did, after spending about the national debt of Bolivia on their gear.
So you can't blame Rapha for this dodgy marketing, just some madman on a Rapha spree, who to be fair takes a pretty good photo...
Heck yeah you're right I got the wrong of the stick on this. Apologies to Rapha, who would never produce anything like this.
Hang on a minute......0 -
Cannot be bothered to start another Rapha thread, but entering BLACKFRIDAY on checkout will get you 10% off till 1st December apparently, something to do with the that other holiday the Americans give themselves. I might go and treat myself (to a hat).0

Already done for you on page 1 of the thread:LangerDan wrote:Zoiks. He's spent over $2,400 on Rapha clothing!'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -
Hmmm - their new neckwarmer - its cheap for Rapha - and I can give it to my wife for xmas and then nick it off her at the weekends for riding. She'll not suspect a thing...0

The kit might be good but expensive. But what a great spot he is in for some fantastic rides. Lucky bu***r.

If you take advantage of the BLACKFRIDAY checkout code as mentioned above a 3 pack of Long sleeved Merino Baselayers works out at £81.00 plus delivery.
This is less than £30.00 a top.
I'll have to find a myself a more expensive/exclusive cycling kit supplier if they keep doing offers like this.
Tweed jacket anyone ?????????

this guy (or the photographer, his wife?) takes amazing photos, absolutely stunning. don't see a problem with his eccentricity either, i think we've all got some of that in us, it's just that he decides to show it to whoever cares to look. i admire his character.
i do wonder why he is not riding a rapha-condor team bike though...0 -
GREG quality p.ss take ,made me laugh a lot Cheers0

A bit geeky but it's his life, time and money. And if you total up everything he's spent there, it is a drop in the ocean compared to buying a second car or top end motorbike plus gear. So what's the problem? Just enjoy the photos and his sligthly tongue in cheek commentary. Or don't and move on. Why have a go at him?0

Great thread. It's funny how the word 'Rapha' polarizes our community. Very amusing all the same, makes you proud to be British. An Americanized relative recently accused us Brits of having a cone up our @rse - I did laugh.0
-
He's Rapha's ideal customer: Monied, and desperate. This fetishism for tradition, history - quite an american characteristic, I think - extends as far as silliness like tied and soldered wheels. I'm surprised he hasn't got a Rivendell too.
But, he's harmless, apparently guileless, and enthusing about a lovely sport. There's nothing to apologise for, really. I'm definitely going off Rapha though.0 -

If the man has the money - why not.. Would you ridicule him riding a top end carbon Colnago0 -

The guy is being mocked - warmly, in general - for his fashion choices. I'm astonished that you think this chiding is, in any way, comparable to homophobia. Or do you think that sexuality is as superficial a choice as dress sense?0 -
The shooter needs someone to call his shots better, two feet left and three down should about do it.0

surely he is having a laugh...? surely....? and this comes from a self confessed rapha tart....0

I do not see much warmth in the mocking. Some people have a problem iwth Rapha and it seems to be open season whenever anyone spends significant money on the clothes. And yes , I am making the comparison because the underlying problem is one of insecurity. If you find it distasteful - that is your problem. I am not comparing homophobia to fashion sense or trivialising homosexuality.0
