Sportive Ride from South Bham and North Worcs. 6th Dec

The Second Beacon Winter Sportive Group Ride - 6th December

For FULL details on the events, see: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... 2514#12514

Here is the second planned route for our sportive training series. Its purpose is to provide base miles in readiness for next season. It is open to non-Beacon riders too!

In essence the route is gently rolling for the first half with a some climbing on the return. This a slightly easier route than November's.

Northfield Black Horse - start 0815
Bromsgrove - pick up at Speeds. 08.45
Hanbury
Himbleton
Wadborough
Upton
British Camp and The Malverns climbs
Ankerdine Hill climb
Shelsey Walsh climb
Abberley climb
Chaddesley - make your own way home from here.

91 miles. 4,931' climbing. 146km. 1416m ascent.

See: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Be ... ride-3-dec

Target silver time and pace. 5 to 5.75 hours of riding. 29.2 - 26kmh

Bring your own food and drink. We will not be stopping at cafes though it will be possible to pick up food and refreshments at Upton, British Camp, Leigh Sinton, Alfrick and Stourport.

It would be nice to keep within a group but that is not always practicable. If you do not know your way home, bring a map or GPS in case the pace is too fast or slow. I will dive off home once in Chaddesley.

If the weather is poor, we could always join the 50 mile ride from Speeds starting at 9am.

If you have any queries, please let me know, e mail me at comms @ beacon . rcc . org. uk (close the gaps))

Look forward to seeing you.

Beacon Winter Cyclosportive Series

A series of rides designed to supplement your cyclosport base training.

This winter we are organising a number of group rides to help members to "get in the miles" in before next year's cyclosport season. The first three will be specially arranged group rides. The remainder will 'piggyback' the Sunrise Express Audax and a local cyclosportive.

Sat 8th Nov Group ride at target silver pace. For route details, see: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... php?t=1865

Sat 6th Dec Group ride at target silver pace
http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... 3647#13647

Sat 3rd Jan Group ride at target silver pace

Sat 7th Feb Beacon Sunrise audax* at target Gold/silver pace. For details, see: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/audax/index.html

Sun 1st Mar Mad March Hare Sportive* at target Gold pace. For details, see: http://www.madmarchharesportive.co.uk/info.php
* pre-entry is required.

This series will hopefully supplement your winter training schedule and provide you with a springboard for next season - though 'getting in the miles' will not help your training alone! It should help support your base training.

Group Rides

Departs: The Black Horse, Northfield at 08.15; Speeds Cycles, Bromsgrove at 08.45 approx.

Pace: 'Silver' cyclosport standard/ A club run pace of approx 25-28kmh average. This may be slightly faster on flatter routes. 'Gold' is in excess of this speed.

Distance: 75-100 miles with some hills.

Routes: These will be announced at least two weeks in advance at www.beaconrcc.org.uk with a posting on the message board at www.wfcrc.org.uk. The route will provided on www.bikely.com . Don't be surprised by a few hills!

Leaders: If you would like to plan and lead a route, drop us a line on the message board.

Weather: If the weather is poor, we may think of something shorter. An alternative option will be to join the training ride from Speeds Cycles at 9am for the 50 mile steady ride.

Group riding: We will aim to ride as a group but if you feel it is too fast or too slow, be prepared to find your own way home. A map will be useful. We will of course wait for people with **flat**s or people who are temporarily'off the back', etc.

Breaks: Stops at local shops for food. Otherwise, non-stop.

Who can ride: Members of the Beacon, Wyre Forest or other local clubs. You don't have to be a sportiver to ride, you may just want to get some miles in!

The Sunrise Express Audax

This is a great winter rider through the Vale of Evesham. The route is around 123km long with supporting food stops. It starts from Hartlebury and heads off to Evesham, Upton and back.

Audaxes are governed by their own rules, which include a maximum average speed. Audaxes are not sportives, so please be aware that most other riders will travel at a more leisurely pace. Nonetheless, it is a great winter warm up!

Look out for our online entry system in the New Year.

The Mad March Hare Sportive

Possibly your first sportive for 2009.

This is a fabulous early season route including Saintbury Hill. It starts from Bradley Green, south of Bromsgrove and heads off down to Broadway, around Bredon Hill and back. Approximately 75 miles.

This event is being arranged by Paul Prince. See: http://www.madmarchharesportive.co.uk/

For both the sportive and audax, we will try to push the ride to gold pace but you can of course drop off and ride at a slower pace.
