And call me crazy but the French (down here at least) are incredibly supportive. Honking, waving, cheering. Cool to see and much appreciated

I thought they wanted to drive a wooden stake through his heart at Marc Madiots request?

    Day 700 of the Comeback.

Still no agreement with Catlin about his anti-doping programme

At least the mainstream press are picking up on this a bit. even if it is via AP

Hmmm, full transparency eh? Why did he need to get Caitlin involved anyway? Could he not have signed up to Astana's well documented program with Damsgaard?

What's that? No-one has actually seen any evidence of Damsgaard's involvement with Astana? Really? I'm shocked.

    Me too.
Wonder where Columbia's evidence of their AD-program is too...
  • The difference is that Astana keep promising that they release it and everytime that date comes and goes. As far as i know Columbia have never said that they would publish there results. Personally, I dont think that publishing the results does much. I would much rather the teams investing in developing tests but there is no Marketing incentive to do such a thing. Transparency would be allowing a doctor from the UCI to monitor them ohh.. wait a minute they already do  .

So you are fine with Columbia not publishing their results, yet not the same with Astana?
Bob did say also at the beginning of this season that they'd publish the results, funny why no one is asking after them, Cav and Columbia did anyway win most races this year........

He'll have it in place by January.

It's a tough thing to organize, but we will make it happen," Armstrong said. "All the stuff we said we were going to do will happen."

Lance, dude, in the last few days you've

    a) spend an evening in Petite Masion watching house band Gypsy Queens
    b) eaten dinner at African Queen
    c) Dinner at Chateau Chevre d'Or in Eze

Could you not have brewed up some pasta, got Catlin and your lawyers on the phone and sorted this out instead? After all, many people don't believe a word you say and you're not doing much to change anyones mind, are you now?

There is some evidence, for example when he provided a quote when the Goose was sacked.

Also, wouldn't Damsgaard very publicly denounce Astana for taking his name in vain, or do you believe that he is bound and gagged in a Luxembourg cellar somewhere?

I hope they realised they had to weigh every gram of food they were over-charging him for. Another myth?

So, his values will hardly be out of competition, if Catlin hasn't even had a sniff, yet?

Not really related to this thread, but a real CERA eye opener, as to just how long it may have been in general use within the peloton.......

    Lance trains with Bertie.

    Comes to senses.

That CERA article was interesting. But I'm concerned about Vaughters. He'd never heard of CERA when it appears a huge portion of the riders had? Shouldn't you know thy enemy?

No my point was that while Astana keep promising to, Columbia have not. Hasnt the company doing Columbias testing folded anyway? Astana has a pretty bad history ( i know some management has changed but the backers are the same) so its not suprising that theres a bit of pressure there. I know Columbia has a similar but there have had a bit more of a cleaning of house. Not that means a hell of alot

Ah, and wasn't old Bruyneel the guy who gave us the famous promise, after legally sidestepping the PTour charter in signing OP Basso, that: "We are happy to supply Ivan's DNA for comparison and analysis"?
.......must have got lost in the US post.

  • ESPN: Maybe this goes a long way to explaining the Lance Bandwagon Phenomenon?
    777a65f0-35b0-4d63-80b9-f11769efb42a.jpg

with the caption - "U.S. cyclist Lance Armstrong, right, walks with an unidentified member of his team after a training session with his cycling team Astana outside Arona, on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife, Monday Dec. 1, 2008. (AP Photo/Arturo Rodriguez)"

This is what the Cafe had to say....

"Unidentified"?!? Does this help? Still drawing a blank? How about this? Still nothing?

This is inexcusable. It's Levi F**king Leipheimer, the first, second and only American to ever ascend the podium of the Vuelta a Espana. The third American to ever stand on the Podium in Paris (officially). The present Olympic Bronze medalist. The only American to ever win the Deutschland Tour. The twice-winner of the Tour of California. Maybe the caption was written by some random service that auto-loads on the ESPN website, but I demand a correction. Also, if it sounds like I'm overreacting, 1) it's my job to overreact when Cycling gets dissed, and 2) it's ESPN's job to gain some basic awareness of America's greatest athletes.

    [h/t Majope]

Update, by Chris: ESPN responds to Majope, who kicks ass today:

    Thank you for contacting us.

I reviewed the photo and see the source is AP (Associated Press). Because ESPN does not own the photo, we do not have the ability to update the photo or caption. Please contact the Associated Press with your request. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Shorter ESPN: we were just following orders. Nice.

Everyone's unidentifiable behind a pair of shades...

And I love the "U.S. cyclist Lance Armstrong, right" bit
    - for those not sure, Lance Armstrong is a cyclist, and he's American, and he's the one on the right.
    - who is this caption written for ? Someone who's been in a cave for 20 years ?

Another thought : perhaps they've just been out walking Lance's dog. It's just the way he's holding it, but it looks like he has a really big bag of dog-scoop !

Does that give a clue as to what the Astana kit for upcoming races (with Armstrong racing) might look like?

Does anyone else get the idea that maybe the foundation is just not generating enough income to support its, er,"research", in the way they have been used to supporting their, er, "research", or is it just me.
