I'd go for the Boardman, amazing spec for the price. Though Halfords aren't great
  • how much did you pay mate.

i heard the baordman is good for london roads as i live in west london.

would it be ideal for london to paris 2009, as ive entered.

    cheers del

    Hi

I have seen the boardman for £550, where in SW London are you. I am there as well, I have a Trek 1.5, which I would also strongly recommend. Paid £450 for the trek.
  • helo mate

yea ive seen the boardman for £549 as well. im just worried about this halfords shit. its only my second racer, so i need a shop to set it up properly or ill die before i can see arsenal win the the champions league lol.

i saw a trek as well. i need a tripple i think. gonna be riding everywhere plus training on it. so i need something durable. is the trek a good one.

im near holland park. .
    where you live.

I am in Fulham, if you want to have a look at my trek/ have a go, I would be willing to meet you somewhere. It does have a 60cm frame though. What do you think?

    Cheers
  • Another vote for the Boardman.

I've had mine for about 2 months, and I'm loving it. It's the highest spec for the money. I got it for £540 as they had 10% off that week. (had to drive 80 miles each way to the nearest Halfords that had my size though  )

Mine was well set up, but obviously each branch's quality of staff vary. Just get your LBS to set it up if it's not right.

  • i bought the 2008 sora bainchi back in january. love it, very comfortable frame for hacking around west london (richmond park etc) i upgraded wheels and a few parts on it, i love it. Im not much of a benchmark though, it is my first road bike :-)
  • giant scr1 2008, £600 if you search on the net, 105 groupset, double, same bottom gear as the triple if you do the maths, the 2009 equivalent is £950

I use a Trek 1.5, and it's great on Londons roads. I've yet to encounter anything that neads a triple set up, including Shooters Hill. I also did a couple of Sportives on it over the summer, and it felt fine over 100 or so miles so it would be fine for the London to Paris. The Frames more than capable of taking upgrades as well.
