Will I get away with washing my tyres in the bath? Or will it make hideous black marks, leading to an angry girlfriend?

(am moving puncture proof tyres from old bike, to new bike btw. Had to use fairy liquid to get them off, and apparently this will eventually perish the rubber)

    I've never washed my tyres.

I do wipe them down, and I did try putting tyre black on them once but it wore off really quickly.
  • I think that the effect of soap + water + road + bike is a compelling reason to wash them.

As long as you don't use the inside of your bath as a velodrome, it should be okay.

    Phew!

I did get caught once riding around inside the house on a wee folding bike...

It'll be fine, I've had mine in the shower before when I've been really lazy. Killing two birds with one stone so to speak :D Luckilly the wife never found out

that was a one off after a particualarly muddy off road ride. I have had to explain why I'm showering in my body armour though lol it seemed the easiest way to clean it at the time

  • newspaper may help .. a little.
i don't currently own a bath, but i'd like one, for me of course, AND for the bikes ( showering bikes is trickier).

you do need a bath and a shower attachment. God knows how you'd get the bike into a shower cubicle :x

Newspaper won't help it'll just get soggy, get stuck everywhere, and then the gf will be even more pissed off.

There's no easy way to cleaning the bike indoors, or bringing the bike into the house for any reason, believe me I've tried most most ways and it's always left a muddy trail  and led to a bollocking from the misses

Just look out for the water that'll collect inside the tyre (presuming you're taking them off the wheels) :D

Reminds of my student days; get in from muddy ride around Eppng forest, park up the bike outside them sneak in and unroll the fire hose, tee hee

I got caught taking a bath and washing my ahem helmet at the same time the other day.

I use shower gel on it to get rid of the built up stench, washing up liquid is too harsh for my delicate skin so I figured two birds with on stone.

My wife was quite amused to find me in the bath, bent double, vigorously soaping up my helmet (now there's a sentence I never thought I'd write).
    "Impressive break"

    "Thanks...

    ...I can taste blood"

LMFAO that's as bad as me, I'm glad I'm not alone. Not as bad as a mate who posted a picture of his new DH rig on hiis bed. brings a whole new meaning to bike love

  • Just line the bath with an old shower curtain.

    Dont block the plughole.

Washing tyres?! Is this like waxing ski's?!
  • Cleaning the bike in the bath is fine. Me and my girlfriend live in different houses. What she dont know wont hurt.
