After much waiting I finally received my Orange P7 Pro, with selected upgrades. On of my choices was to go with SRAM instead of Shimano. So I should have recieved Front Mech, Rear Mech, and shifts.

But, no, instead I get SRAM Rear Mech, SRAM shifts and SHIMANO FRONT MECH!!!!! WFT!!!!

So I go back to the bike shop, and as what happened. Only to be told, "Oh, Orange never intended to supply SRAM Front Mechs, and the 'Prices and Specifications are liable to change without notice.' statement is a cop out for them. Why bloody advertise a SRAM GROUPSET as an option if it is not the whole groupset.

Apart form that nice bike.

Meh, just about every bike manufacturer states they reserve the right to change specs.

And tbh - it's the shifters and rear mech that makes SRAM feel like SRAM - front mech is so not worth getting upset about. And if I remember rightly it's a free option and X9 costs more than XT so it's a bit of a f*cking deal really!

I always run my SRAM groupsets with Shimano front derailleurs - they are just as good or better than SRAM. No-one but you will ever notice, the price difference (if any) is a couple of quid, so for me this wouldn't be a problem.

front mech would be the least bit to be concerned about.
  • If i was buliding from scratch i'd get SRAM X9 rear mech and X9 shifters but shimano deore front mech. front mech doesn't matter and shimano deore would be cheaper.

In a blind test you could not possibly notice the difference - a front mech is a front mech. Shimano front mechs are meant to be better quality anyway.

I'd also like to say that in all my dealings with Orange their service has been brilliant. I've been given tons of advice, free replacement decals, cheap replacement components and excellent customer service in general. Their staff are really passionate and knowledgeables and, together with the fact that they're a UK company, that is why I buy their bikes.

If you have a problem, give them a ring directly.

My Stumpjumper was all SRAM apart from the front mech (LX).
For some reason SRAM front mechs don't seem to be rated as highly as Shimano.
Reckon that they make better shifters and rear mechs though.
