Belfast/ Northern Ireland commuting question

Any NI commuters have experience combining Translink rail travel and cycle commuting

The reason I ask is that I am being made redundant at Xmas and the only job options seem to be in Belfast, which is a bit far to commute from Portrush (120 mile round trip)

I am considering cycling to Coleraine (5mile) + rail to Belfast + commute to job

What are translink facilities like?
Would I be guaranteed a space for the bike?

Apologies to any one outside NI as you probably have no interest in this thread.

I know I could PM a couple of NI regulars but I assume there are lurkers out there who may join in.

Girv I have PM'd you with a more specific question
“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!

  • NI Railways gives a rough details of their cycle policy. Trains take up to four regular bikes per train on a first-come first-served basis, but not before 9:30. Folders can be taken at any time.
  • Folders are your best bet.Good luck.

TBH It never occurred to be that there would be a ban on bikes during the morning commute. I was on that very website looking at combinations of bike and train for the shortest travel time and cheapest fare

Joined up government at its very finest

  • The morning ban on bikes is a total bummer

You could still cycle to Coleraine and leave your bike at the station?? Not sure what the facilities are like at Coleraine station???

I cycle from lisburn every day on a road bike, but occassionally get the train from Lisburn with my folding Dahon, and they're fine about it, even when the train's packed. But I haven't seen anyone try to get a full size bike on board in the morning.
Time you've enjoyed wasting, hasn't been wasted
