Changing from an 8 speed cassette to a 9 speed cassette.

Hi, I am a newbie so if this is a ridiculously stupid question then I apologise in advance.
I have a GT LTS-2 from around 1995, I was wondering if I could change the cassette from an 8 speed to a 9 speed cassette, it doesnt look like anything wider would fit on there, is it possible to some how get it one on there??

they are the same width. so straight swap for the cassette.
