Looking to buy 1st road bike. Wavering between entry level brand new bike and 2nd hand higher spec.

Not really sure though how to go about looking for 2nd hand bike. I obviously know there's ebay but what other places are there to check? especially local ones? do bike shops do 2nd hand?

Personally i would look around the bike shops, they often have "previously loved" bikes. Also it will be easier to get advice on the size you need.
While you are at it look out for reduced 2008 bikes being sold off like Giant SCR and Specialized Allez.
    Happy hunting :D

Just had my Roubaix Comp stolen, so have a look for a bargain in bike shops around Shoreditch!
  • I'd say buy new. If you buy second hand you'll probably need to upgrade some bits like the tyres and the saddle.

It might be worth looking at the Focus range on Wiggle.com. Or seeing if you're local bike shop is selling off any 08 models.
  • I'm looking to pick up the elusive bargain in order to give road biking a go and to see if i like is... so I'm looking to ebay!

Now I guess the answer is to go and get fitted (and i will try to ;) ) but as a 5' 2" girlie with short 29" legs would this bike be likely to be even close to fiting???

My advice - go to a few bike shops, try a few bikes, find out what size you need, if one of them has something to suit you all well and good. If not, then using what you have learnt look online.
Buy the wrong bike and you won't use it, buy the right bike and you will love it :D
