I'm about to dive into the world of road cycling but have a negging question before i do.

i'm coming into road cycling from mountain biking and wanted to know if there
would be anything stopping me putting some cyclocross tyres on a road bike,
to vary my riding a bit and get a change from tramac. or will something catastrophically bad happen to whatever bike i decide to get.

all help is appreciated.
cheers, Alex

  • The clearance between forks and stays on a road bike won't be enough to put cyclocross tyres on...

    "on a road bike"

By which synch' means a race bike - adopting the common and to me unfathomable habit of assuming "road" and "race" are synonomous! If take the more literal interpratation, then there are many ROAD as in tarmac cycles that will take cyclo cross tyres e.g. Tricross. Thus my Tricross Single has two sets of wheels (changing wheels a lot easier than tyres), one with mini-tractors and one with much smaller and slicker rubber.
