T'is funny what biking does to one. 90% thighs, 10% the rest.

What do others reckon.? I know some use weights just because
they hate looking like an escapee from a concentration camp

I've just read a biography of Robert Millar. One of the book's contributors described him at the peak of his career as being all legs with the torso of a 14 year old boy. I guess it goes with the territory, which is why I swim as well.
  • try mtbing, that does the upper body too.
  • I saw a pic of Michael Rasmussen Im sure it was during the Tour. I hit the deck and did push ups until I passed out.

i think rasmusen looks ill there - terrible physique, but I appreciate that he makes his money through cycling (obviously not any more - but you know what I mean) so to him performance is everything.

me - well I appreciate that carrying an extra stone or so in upper body muscle weight won't get me up the hills any faster - but I am more than willing to live with it for the benefits of:
    looking better in clothes
    and
    looking better naked!

weight training is a big part of my weekly training regime - as is the diet to support the additional muscle and it's growth.
  • My mate, British u90kg champion. Hopefully getting his pro card next year. Also been invited to the Arnold Classic, again, he politely turned then down last year as he wasnt sure he was big enough  Perfect legs, except that they dont fit into a pair of jeans anymore  I dont quite want that either.

  • It's called T-rex syndrome. Big legs, tiny arms :)

Does depend on the type o riding you do. I wouldn't call Sir Chris skinny.

Try going down to your local bodybuilding gym and have a look at most of the guys there. They'll be the total opposite, all skinny legs and massive upper body. I remember years ago we (guys from the gym) went along to see one of our fellow gym members compete in Mr Scotland. He was pretty impressive but had thin legs. When he came out on stage with the spot light on him, we all started making chicken noises (for his chicken legs) cue lots of people laughing and very red faced bodybuilder left on the stage. He didn't win!!

aw, what a shame - probably just because the rest of him is so huge. If there was a muscle in there and it was possible to build that muscle, I bet he would be lifting huge weights with it in order to build it up. What the hell am I talking about?

I don't strive for the body builder look either - strikes me that if you have the physique of a pro cyclist or a pro body builder you are still going to have to have your suits tailor made  I'll stick with what I've got - it seems to work (although for some unknown reason my elbows are hurting right now).

Female cyclists - oddly - don't seem to suffer from the same problems - they just get more and more attractive :!:

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

I don't like that body builder look at all, nor the Rasmussen look (I think I would snap him if I sat on his knee). I would prefer someone who was a bit overweight to either of those any day.

It's a little known fact that the use of steroids by bodybuilders doesn't build extra muscle.

They actually have fairly normal sized bodies, but over-reliance on steroids has shrunk their heads

You think that's bad, after Arnold Schwarzenegger won Mr Universe in 1969 my grandfather told him that he "looked a bit thin on his legs"
