Help me decide on new rigid forks

As a Chrimble pressie, Mrs. G has agreed to "buy me" some rigid forks for Lumpy, to replace the cheapy 2.2Kg suspension forks that are currently fitted and that I don't need.

After much research, I've narrowed my choices down to these two:
    * Orange F8: cromo, weight 1.1Kg, £55ish * eXotic Carbon: carbon/alloy, 0.7Kg, £90ish

For a commuter bike I'd obviously like minimum weight with a comfortable ride, so the carbon forks have got to be in with a shot. But they are beyond the budget I'd originally set and I'm also a bit wary of them because they're so much cheaper than the other carbon forks on the market.

Your opinions are invited...

    Just noticed this about the eXotic forks: rider weight limit 95Kg

    I'd be right on the limit on my own :oops:, but will be well over it with my regular backpack that can be pretty heavy on a bad day when I have the laptop, shopping etc.. Although my usage will be relatively gentle, I need these forks to last and don't want to take the chance.

    Orange F8 it is then!

    Thanks, but they look like they have the On-one forks that are always out of stock. Well out of my budget in any case.

    It's always worth an ask at your LBS, I got some high end GT forks a couple of years ago for £10, they came off a bike they built for someone that switched to sups, never ridden just fitted.
