Anyone else buy components they don't need?

Maybe it's the effect of the credit crunch, but with all the deals around, I seem to find myself accumulating bike parts for projects that may, or probably won't, ever happen. The spare parts 'bin' now has almost enough components to build a complete bike, with the right frame of course. Perhaps it's just experience of having to justify new bikes to the other half (often a painful expereince) that has lead my subconscious to believe that I can one day produce a full build from the garage, all made up from 'used' parts that have been lying around for years. Hey presto - new bike and garage tidied - everyone's a winner :D

Is this happening to anyone else? I'm the first to laugh at the poor, sad, unfortunates on tv progs like Spendaholics, etc. but it took a lot of self control to stop myself buying a set of Chorus brakes from Ribbles 15% off weekend. Realising I don't have a bike to put them on didn't seem illogical at the time :?

  • I have a pair of Record Ergopower levers sitting in a box, left over from a groupset purchase which I paired up with bar end controls for a TT bike. Buying the full groupset and the extra levers was only £30 more expensive than buying all components except the Ergo levers. I've been planning to move all my gear sets down my bikes until I have Ergopower on the hack that is permenantly on my turbo trainer. I've been thinking about it for months.
To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.

Got a spare DA bottom bracket kicking around but I think that it might come in useful at some point. Mostly though I just move equipment from one frame to another - as the "best" bike gets better, the bikes lower down the chain get the cast offs, hence winter bike now running full 105

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!
