Buying a new bike. going for te cannondale badboy me thinks.
Confused over the alfine hub gearing. I quite fancy it as it looks the bomb. Had a a go of it today(bad boy 8) but it was just on flat area of ground so difficult to really guage gear usage.
Bike will be used for commuting only. Wee bits of steep hills(not too many). mostly flatish.
i have read up on it a wee bit but i still cannot get my head around the differences in the ratios. This admittedley is my ignorance of my current ratios. (standard 27 gear mtb).
When scooting about towm. i mainly use big ring at crank and the full range on rear cog. obvioulsy trying not to twist the chain too often with big at front and big at back. Will also use middel ring at front and smaller sized cogs at back. Never usually go into the bigger cog on rear when in middel ring on front, never use small ring at front.....taking all this highly technical jargon into account. Does anyone with the experience of the alfine hub thinks i would have a problem with the gear ratios that if offers. Am about to splash my cash and, for a commuting bike, the set it up and forget it aspect is very appealing.
Also found the fact the front ring is very small. Made me think it would not have mush power going to it. Do people change this for a bigger ring. Is it possible. Would imagine you would need bigger chain.
