Looking for a new Helmet for the winter. ive been out and got my new Giro Remedy and am now thinking of getting a open face helmet for when im not doing DH.
I dont really want to spend more than £50 as it wont be getting used much but will go higher for the right helmet.
i was thinking of going to evans and trying the fox flux on which theyve got in the sale for £60. does anyone know of any other helmets they think i should be looking at while out, ive heard about the giro xen quite abit and thats also in the sale at £60.
thanks for replies..

  • Find one you like the look of, and go and try it on. If you can't find one you like the look of locally to try, go for the next best looking and try that on.

I just went for a Giro Indicator. It looks ok for the price (less than £30) and had the features I wanted (bug mesh). I really wanted a Met Kaos but I couldn't find one locally to try on, and it's about 5 times the price.
    Welcome, to my bonesaw!

Giro Hex is about £35 and its the best helmet Ive owned!

Some of the more expensive helmets are very overated.

Try one if you can, such a good price too.

Just bought a Fox Flux today! as it felt the best and I liked the look of it in white (I know I know, I'm a tart!)

It feels very light and compact. If you are a DHer it might be more up your street as it is shaped in a way that covers the back of your head more (something I only learnt today at Stif!) as opposed to XC ones which are slightly more open at the back.

I can recommends THE Industries "F-14" helmet.

    Absolutely first class.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I bought a flux and felt the opposite. Heavier and bigger than my hex which is cheaper, lighter, cools you better. all round better in my eyes.

Another point, the flux died when i hit a rabbit on a road descent. landed directly on the top of my head and my head was fine, did a great job. but it had a crack, understandably, and so i needed to replace it. At the time (and still?) Fox didn't do a crash replacement policy so that was half the reason why i went with giro. You damage the helmet in a crash, you can send it back and get a cheaper one in return. not sure on pricing of the cheaper helmets but its worth it. ah ha linky:

I'm now on my 2nd hex after the first had a few decent crashes and protected me fine.
    hex gets my vote.
