OK guys, sorry to start yet another thread about my hunt for an MTB.

Finally put the dosh down and I am picking up my Trek 6700 (now out of stock in my size at Trek UK ;-)) on Thursday. I am so excited, it is something I have spent a lot of time researching and pondering.

I have some Crud essentials coming, an Immobilise Tag, Giro Hex helmet, Kryptonite U-Lock, gloves, baggy shorts, jacket, lights (not all just purchased, some I already had).

What other essential items might I need to get hold of?

He he, cool on the pedals. Maxed out my budget on the bike, so just getting the supplied platform and will upgrade next month for Chrimbo to SPD. I also have a mutlitool.

Can you recommend a good light weight cage and a decent bottle, oh and a compact pump that'd fit in a rucksack.

Also, Lizard Skins, I looked at these and thought they would spoil the look of the bike. Are they just for the chain guard area, or underside of the frame as well? Would clear vinyl from a signmaker do the job equally as well and if applied to a new frame wouldn't show up as much, if at all?

Yopu don't have to buy all this stuff at once of course.

Not thought of a camelbak as a rucksack? Hydration and storage in one?

Vinyl works well on frames. I have a Topeak peakini pump, light, works well.
  • I have a Blackburn Mammoth pump, which is good. Some of the new Lezyne ones look good too.

On the bottle cage, depends on how much you want to spend.Carbon ones can be under 30g but cost £25.

The Trek Angel cages look nice, are fairly light and are around £7,if not just get a regular alloy cage for a fiver.Bottles are all much of a muchness, though some have a wider cap, which is useful if you want to pt ice cubes in them, and makes cleaning easier.

Clear vinylwould do the job,or look for copter tape on justridingalong or ebay.
