  • What a great uplifting thread for a change.

Boonen - fantastic on cobbles and races all year which I think is important.

Cancellara - has always looked classy on a bike and makes really hard efforts look very easy.

Ballan - proof that sometimes an astute tactical mind can overcome brute strength.

Voight - literally rides the saddle off his bike.

Cunego - every race you think he has a chance often leaves you wondering how you ever thought that but always entertaining.

Hulsmans - seems to really enjoy the fact that he gets paid to ride a bike and you don't see that enough. He also sums up how important team mates are.

There are loads of others I can't remember right now.

womens racing has moved on in the last ten years.. certainly not the sport of the early nineties

  • Armstrong...to me the best all-rounder ever... :D ...He's the reason started to watch cycling...
Ullrich...noble and fierce rival of Lance(eternal second to him, but luckily he got a well deserved Tour)... God I miss the good old days...2003 was a great year( my first tour)
Beloki...its a shame hi crashed :( ...that ruined his carrier :? ... Contador kind of reminds me of him...
Bodrogi Laci... representing my nation :)

Unfortunatly no new riders cought my eyes lately...I do support the old "greats" though(Sastre, Levi, Kloden)...

Hm...maybe Kreuziger...hope to see great battles betwen Him, Andy and Contador...

It's weird how Ullrich gets so much credit for almost having won in 2003, when Armstrong overcame (relatively) poor form and many other issues to still take the win, and gets much less credit!

Armstong's "other issues" are often alluded to. Even he used to talk about these saying "some you know about, some you don't". Asides from the obvious (the musette incident, deydrating in the first TT) But I've never heard what they actually were. Anyone know?

2003 was a great Tour. I have a theory that if Beloki hadn't crashed, Armstrong might not have been able to contain both he and Ullrich. We'll never know, though.

Favourite riders: Kelly for being such a hard working pro and excellence over a long period, Voigt for the same, O'Grady, Bettini and Sastre. Despite what Lance says, I think it is the races that make the sport, not the other way round.

Cunego - savvy rider, takes what he can and supported Ballan so well in Varese
    Voigt - tough, classy rider
    Bettini - nuff said
Di Luca - suspect but oozes class
Cavendish - when it's right he does the job perfectly
Levi - can do it all and does so without bitching.
Ballan - class again. Classics and World champ
Boonen - poss. a bit 'Hollywood' but in those Belgian classics he delivers the goods
Cancellara - i wish I could tt like that but he can still take stages as well (great hair as well)

great list - I would put voigt at the top of mine for being so affable... a great personality .... when you say Levi do you mean Leipheimer? (or is there a surname Levi in the pro peloton?) if the former, my list would not include him - i thought his somewhat narcissistic Let Levi Ride campaign discredited him

dont care if any of them are clean....

once you accept that all cyclists cheat, then you can believe again.
i believe in Michael Rasmussen i also think Stephan Schumacher is an outstanding rider.
to me track cyclists are not proper cyclists so they dont count.
