Race of champions used to be a motorbike race - each of the different championships (motogp, WSB, BSB, AMA)....but I am liking this idea - my money is on Hoy (assuming Hamilton is in a Mercedes A class 1.4 litre!).0
-
Can we make it realistic by all taking our cars on the track and causing a bit of traffic??? :twisted:0

I've seen this on and off for about 20 years, and it's very good, used to be done outside though.
I like the above idea, wonder how they will work it.....?
LIT, I think you can edit the topic title no?

Saw this on the beeb news this morning and it looks really interesting!

Has some more details however I'm wondering how they are going to make it close, as Chris Hoy might be rather quick, but I think even he'd struggle to keep up with a car in a straight sprint!0 -
It's got to be something like a very twisty track... but then I guess that would slow Hoy down too.
Interesting. Don't know!0 -

Hoy is a lot bigger than Hamilton. If I were Hamilton, I'd let the big Scot win.FCN 2-4.

"It stays down, Daddy."
"Exactly."0 -
Hoy should be able to corner faster as he can straight line a lot of them, or at least significantly reduce the radius. If you've seen the RoC track it is very, very twisty. Think a go-kart track rather than Silverstone.

Hoy should win the Sports personality of the year easily,
Hamilton doesn't have one, a personality that is :shock:0 -

Now that's harsh. How would a milionaire sportsman get a Pussycat Doll girlfriend if he didn't have a personality? Oh...0 -

Yeh if it is like previous years ROC tracks, it is 2 seperate tracks that cross over and under each other, so neither car is on the same piece of road simultaneously, and the end result being that they cover the same distance to get to the finish line.
It's usually pretty twisty, and I imagine Hamilton will be in something like an AMG SL, which will be putting out around 600BHP, but if it's super twisty and tight, there's only so much of that power you can use, plus it will be VERY heavy, and won't be as maneuverable (Is that spelt right?) as say a WRC car, so it might prove somewhat of a handful, even for the likes of Hamilton.
So I think Hoy has a good chance, his adrenaline has to be pumping for this one I reckon

Hamilton will probably aim for 5th (and barely scrape that).0 -

As Jimmy Carr once said:A little bit of me wants to be in the Pussycat Dolls....
On the subject of car vs. bike (well motorbike) I do remember seeing on a Top Gear DVD once where they pitted a Ducati against a Porsche Carrera. If I remember correctly the bike won but it was interesting seeing how it panned out. The car had the advantage through the corners as it had 4 wide tyres to keep it planted but the bike had amazing acceleration, which meant although it was slower into the corners it monstered the car out of them and on the straights :-)
Maybe Hamilton will be in a G-Whizz :twisted:0 -
Saw it on the news this morning, and the sport presenter actually brought up the fairness element, before saying that Hamilton would have to go through chicanes etc whereas Hoy would just go round the outside. That suggests that they'll be building Hoy a velodrome style track around the edge of the main track, but we'll have to wait and see.0

I was a little concerned that Hoy would not be able to do the right-hand turns :shock:0 -
Wondering if Hoy will actually ride a track bike and have to worry about pedal strike in hte corners or if he'll ride a road bike? I'm hoping he'll ride fixed cos he's too cool for gears/freewheels.Bianchi Via Nirone Veloce/Centaur 20100

I watched the interview on the bbc sport website, he definitely said he would be riding a single gear, don't recall him saying whether it would be fixed, but you would think so, as that's what he is used to on the track.
Wonder if the ROC will be on terrestrial anywhere, or just on sky.....?
I remember they used to show it around Christmas, if at all.

SKy only, though there will be highlights on SPOTY program later that day no doubt and bits on the news if Hamilton does as well as we want him to.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
