There I was out on my training run yesterday with about 12 other guys all going a bit balls out sprinting down this nice quiet road when this car starts to overtake and then pulls in behind me splitting me off from the rest of the guys and refuses to go past me, so I carry on and come across a herd on walkers all across the road all with huge walking sticks, so I shout to let them know I am coming through and they scatter like sheep , moaning about cyclists and waving their sticks. So as I went past I said to one guy' I wouldn't worry about me there is a car and 12 other cyclists about 10 seconds behind', I don't know if they waved their sticks at the car as well or if they thought about getting out of the road.
So thats my adventure for the week, hopefully it will get batter.

If there's a car behind you i'd consider it bad form to start a sprint in the first place. As for charging through a group of walkers that's another matter altogether."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

The car came up after we had started and I was a bit stuck with the car sitting right behind me pacing me and refusing to pass.
I assume that if I hadn't scattered the walkers then the car would have plowed into them and that would have been better in some way :roll:The gear changing, helmet wearing fule.

Wave the car past as an option?'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0

Sadly, at weekends, everyone wants a slice or the roads. Runners, walkers, horse riders, car drivers, cyclists and all the others.0

I'm surprised the driver did not go past, usually they just cant wait to get past and force their way through, it has been done to me before and they nearly hit me..0

I had a car on my tail one morning this summer. Nothing else on the road and clear to overtake but she just held on to my back wheel. I moved over pretty far left early on to let them pass but no overtake. They turned off about half a mile on.
I suspect she was trying to conserve fuel by slipstreaming off me.0 -

I usually just indicate that I'm about to stop, does the trick.'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0 -
I actually understand what Boybiker is on about. Some of these weekend walkers will walk in the road facing away from normal traffic flow. The Ramblers association must shudder at these people.0

I have done so myself, not necessarily foolish when you consider that roads have bends and as a walker you don't want to be in a spot where the traffic cannot see you as they approach. As a result I would swap the side of the road to suit the distance of vision so I would always be on the outside of the curve.
Walkers also have the right to use the roads, in country areas there will as a rule not be footpaths.'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0 -

Use a bell, it's probally not so cool if your on a road bike, but iIt's good to use on cycle paths to warn the dog walkers that have no control over their dogs."If we all had hardtails we'd all go down the hill, just slower"
