I've got some 8 speed Campag Ergos on eBay, and I've been asked if they will work with a triple chainset. I'm guessing they will, but anyone know for sure? Thanks

  • They will. I've used some old 8spd chorus levers with a triple and had it working pretty well evn using a dodgy old Shimano 105 double front mech. then switched the triple onto an old Lemond frame with a braze on fitting and set it up without any problems using a braze on triple front mech. All while using a variety of cassette and chain makes/ratios to confuse the issue even further.

I hear that things are different with the newer QS style of front shifting, but all older Campag ergos, whether 8, 9, or 10 speed, had a very fine ratchet with plenty of notches, and unlike their Shimano cousins, each model was thus designed to work with both double or triple rather than being manufactured in distinct double & triple versions. In short, no need for either you or the buyer to worry - should work a treat.
