I have been cycling the 3 miles to work for nearly two years with no punctures but in the last month I have had four!
I ride a Boardman Urban Pro with Maxxis Detonator tyres, but I have been told I can get some kevlar reinforced puncture resistant tyres for about £15 each.
Does anyone have any expeience of these and are there other alternatives please?

check out race lites or armadilos (forget the spellling, but been plenty of threads on this already so just do a tyre search. :) ) There are lots of great options for very little money.

    Thanks downfader.
  • I've got a Boardman Urban Team but I got rid of the Maxxis tyres as well and replaced them with Schwalbe Marthon plus tyres, good tyres.

Tried the Conti Gatorskins and the Specialsed Armadillo's and both have been good. By good I mean no punctured with either of them on 2500 miles of riding. Compare this with the tyres that came on the bike, 4 punctures in 3 commutes
    FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.
  • Clearly, for theh past 2 years, there has been nothing wrong with the tyres you have. They are probably just worn out, hence the rash of punctures.

Some good help and advice here, thanks all. I have replaced both tubes but have decided if I have another puncture I am going to change both tyres for one of suggestions above.
  • I had the very same problem with my rear 4 punctures in 2 weeks and was getting really p*****d off. The rear had only done about 300 miles so Ijust figured must have been glass or something on route. I changed to Schwalbe Marthon tyres and have not had a flat for about 3 months.

    Sounds like worn tyre(s).
I had a rash of Pun(+ur3s, but since fitting Vittoria CX tyres, they have been few and far between (touch wood)

I vote for the marathon plus too. I had trouble with flats alot, due to one of the areas I have to ride through (the one that i live in so can't really avoid) being very bad for broken glass. I changed over to the SMP and didn't have a single flat due to the glass for about a year and a half.

  • I use the mrathons rather than the marathon plus because I'd heard the SMP were hard to fit. The SM seem fine though. I got them on Wiggle and they delivered within 24 hours.
  • Everyone seemed to be getting puntures, I got two. First in a year.

Something to do with wet weather and lots of road works.

Lots water , this lubricates all the fresh debris and allows it to punture your tyres more easily i was told....

    Sounds fair to me.

Yeah, I heard that about the wet weather link to more punctures. Most of my punctures have happened in the rain. Maybe that is just Sod's Law though...?

Schwalbe M+ are a pig to fit and that's for certain....

Get your tyre spanners out and take a strong pill. They haven't let me down in a thousand miles however.

Be prepared for a bit of road marking "squirm".....
