Last time i was up at stainburn i came off broke my frame and smacked my face in to a tree sump.
This sat i went to stainburn and ended up in a+e with a swolen hand and an x ray to make sure its not bust...... and the guys i met up with to ride there form bike radar went on riding after getting me back to the car, and managed to break 3 toes..
Well this was the straw that broke the camals back im off to get flats and learn how to use them. I also off to sports direct to get some cheep airwalks to use ( 5/10 for xmass )
I cant do heading down hill under the biek and strapped to it any more.
To surf matt you where right about hte bad crashes and spds.

In all the years i've had spd's ive never had one crash when mtb'ing due to them (always something else). But yeah, you sound pretty incompatible with them! Unlucky.0

Aw not again Baboon! Where exactly was it? Is it any better today? Did you break the bike?
Just out of curiosity, how old are you and how much time have you spent riding bikes? What bikes have you ridden etc... Just a bit of background info.0 -
Bike Is ok
the injury is just a bad bruse. across the whole palm, black and blue and is stiff and sore to move.
Been riding for abotu 10-11 months now, Have had a CB team bike that i broke 3 weeks ago and i have just replaced the frame to a 16" on one 456 with 2 chain rings and a bash guard ( stainburn rocks chew up large chain rings).
Im 27 so i should know better by now.
Normaly ride up to 100miles a week max ( cold dark and wet weather is limiting that. ) i will do 3 15 mile local loops during the week and then a long ride on the sat and sunday if i can.
I have been using stainburn to up my skills and i know that im going to fall as i push myself and i do have pads on when im riding. The last few falls have ben nasty getting stuck to the bike. Im moveing over to flats and im hopeing to be ready for the sat ride this weekend with you (gt) and Dave-hill.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

I was just curious as Stainburn is definately not the place to be for someone with limited experience! but you seem to have spent a long time in the saddle!
and I guess its easier to throw the bike away if you are on flats, compared to being clipped in, meaning the risk of injuries is possibly reduced.
I am always steady at Stainburn and haven't had an off there yet, but its not something I would look forward to!0 -
I was playing on the big rock down the desent line. Just rolling the drop off and then airing the drop just below it. I got a bit cocky went a bit to fast and took off at an angle and it all went wrong form there. SPDs did not cuase the crash but i did not brake free form the bike once i did go down.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

well its deadly there and that big rock is just that BIG!
Hopefully you'll be OK for Saturday, sounds like it should be a bit easier than Stainburn out on the moors!
we'll have to go to Stainburn wehn it dries out a bit, if it ever does.0 -
I will deffo try to make it to that one.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

Well as an old man (49) I find Stainburn a little hairy at times and a few weeks ago I did that new section of red and was going well and then suddenly this massive drop off a massive boulder appears. Normally I assume I can ride anything a red route throws up but that one got me on the anchors pdq. Even after a bit of inspection I decided to wait for another day to try it. But surely you can't call that "red", surely that bit is "black" or am I just getting too old?Commencal Meta 5.5.1

The section that you where rideing was the desent line and its not graded ATM. the red loop takes you to the top and then round to the right. As i found with the big rock Its easy to roll just have your bum right over the rear tyre and let it roll slowly. Just controll your speed offthe next jump or you eat rock like me.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas

If the 'big rock' you refer to is the slab, it was once upon a time graded as double black!! and agreed that run is not red it is black no doubt.
Baboon - hope to see you saturday with GT et al. Really looking forward to it actually."If you think straight enough, you can see round corners"0 -
No, it's not the slab, it's a big boulder on a new section of track. The slab is on the black run which is certainly fairly black in places.Commencal Meta 5.5.1

Yeah, steady easyG!!! we are on about the descent line over on the far side of the hill. You and the Mona the Marin would absolutely love it, but I bet you'd think twice about the rock we are on about!0 -
Bit of an update ive got my new flats on and a new pair of shoes, Shimano MP56. Had a quick blast over stuff on my way to work and i did still feel connected to the bike. Fingers X to get my hand back to 100% for the weekend ride. May Do stainburn not this weekend but next..... so if anyone wants to see how (not) to ride the desent line drop me a PM.Nothing in life can not be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas
