I have just got a new bike and my dad wants to go out riding with me now using my old bike. I was wondering if anyone knows of any easy routes that are not to technical or rocky in or around the north west as he is a complete beginner.

  • Just stick to canal tow paths and quiet lanes to build up your fitness then move onto Llandegla blue/red or Grizedale's North Face.

Have to say the North West isn't great for beginners, too many hills. That said try Delamere forest or Gisburn forest north of Clitheroe (few technical bits that can be walked, rest is fireroad or smooth single track).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result

Try a few of the easy trails in Grizedale. The North Face is a possibility once he finds his wheels - not very hard but a few steps etc. Claife Heights near Hawkshead is a very good option - bit hilly but really not technical. A nice run!

Is he fit? As a decent level of fitness will overcome some of his handling skills.

Delemere is a good shout - as you can do easy fire track & some ok singletrack
  • were in the northwest? Rivington is excellent for begginers. Pm me if you want me to tell you a good route.
