Just stick to canal tow paths and quiet lanes to build up your fitness then move onto Llandegla blue/red or Grizedale's North Face.0

Have to say the North West isn't great for beginners, too many hills. That said try Delamere forest or Gisburn forest north of Clitheroe (few technical bits that can be walked, rest is fireroad or smooth single track). It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Try a few of the easy trails in Grizedale. The North Face is a possibility once he finds his wheels - not very hard but a few steps etc. Claife Heights near Hawkshead is a very good option - bit hilly but really not technical. A nice run!'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0
