Went to see The Stranglers play last nigh at the Shephards Bush Empire, what a great band. After 30 years, these boys are still going strong. On of the best bands out of the UK!

I saw them in Paris in 2004. Good performance, but the audience was the most boring I've ever seen, They just stood there, arms folded for most of the gig, although No More Heroes got things moving. Pity it was the last song of the encore.

I was at the roundhouse last november watching them. They were brilliant. Got the dvd of the gig when it came out and me and the misses are there in the crowd :) This was a great gig, loved every minute. What was really good is Dave's keyboards were playing up so after they had played half a dozen songs they took a break while the tech guys sorted out the problem. They then came back on to start from the top of the set list as it was all for the dvd. Great stuff.

My all time fav band. I always said I'd never go see them again when Hugh left but one man a band doth not make.

I saw them in 2004 in Wolverhampton, the crowd were anything but boring then

Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, its all good and have liked them since I was a sprog. They aint the same band they used to be though, what is it now - one original member now?

No, 3 of the original band are still there. You must be thinking of somebody else.

Three of the original four are still there, Jean-Jacque Burnell, Jet Black and Dave Greenfield.

They make up the bulk of my turbo trainer playlists. I've seen them at Manchester Apollo, Preston Guildhall, Manchester Academy and some club in Manchester when Paul Roberts first joined. Rattus is still my favorite album, so full of attitude.
To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.

I was also at the Roundhouse when Dave had Gremlins in his keyboard!

Funny, I met Dave last night, had a good chat with him, really nice guy!

Bought Rattus Norvegicus when it first came out, then bought everything else they ever did (all on vinyl). Saw them 15 times but the last time was just before Hugh Cornwell left. Haven't felt the urge since, but, by the sound of things, it may still be worth it.

Perhaps my only complaint would be that, for such talented individuals (apart from HC who couldn't really play and often forgot his words), they never improvised during their gigs. Good studio albums, faithfully reproduced on stage with the odd clever medley-style segue between songs, but couldn't they have let JJ and Dave run riot now and again with a bit of free-flowing jamming?

That said, the gigs were just fantastic; always on the edge of anarchy, people jumping up on stage and doing the JJ karate dance, great turbulence down the front and an incredibly loyal following. I remember spending the whole night on an overnight bus to a gig in Paris with a female stranger whose only luggage was a Sony Walkman and a bag of cassettes, all of them bootleg stranglers gigs. We shared the headphones, one each. It was better than sex (especially since there was no chance of that anyway! :D )

Some how, I just don't believe that!
  • don't think he would put it in his book if it wasn't true. I was amazed though
I wasn't there though so can't confirm it.

I just can't imagine JJ tolerating such an individual. Did you see Steve Strange in the papers a few years ago, got caught shoplifting in Wales, what a twat!

  • Saw them a few years back. Supported by Stiff Little Fingers who were much better than the stranglers.

I expect it was a misunderstanding and JJB was actually just giving him a kicking.
  • well i've no experience of either, but i reckon it would be quite easy to tell if you've been rodgered or had a good hiding

I wonder if the money was right, would Hugh go back or do a tour with the band???

I doubt that very much, given the history. And this would be the wrong time. Both Hugh and the band are getting more acclaim for their work now, so less of a reason to get back together.

Speaking of HC, there's a free album to download here: http://www.hooverdamdownload.com/

It's a good 'un as well!
