Alpine tour Geneva to Nice

Next year I plan to look at a trip from Geneva to Nice.
Does anyone have advice about the trip, the best route options that might avoid traffic as far as possible. I have looked at the standard traditional jouney which sems fine except for some commentary re traffic in certain areas. Has anyone done this trip that can offer any advice? Are there any recommended variations?

The traffic is the least of your problems. Drivers will be considerate and you will have plenty of two-wheeled company on the roads.
What you need to think about is pacing yourself (the climbs are not steep but they are long and drain your energy), feeding yourself, motivating yourself and enjoying yourself.
It is a fantastic experience. Do it. But plan it and look on this site for lots of good advice.0
