What do you all wear to commute?

  • This one isn't for myself personally but I did see a guy heading through Merton this morning in shorts and sleeveless t-shirt! Bearing in mind this morning was rather cold (I was in my car for a change due to distance to site.......) and I even had to de-ice my windows!

I can only assume he has molten oil running through his veins :-D

I'm a student in civvies, mainly due to lack of cash for specialist(y) stuff and non-jeans trousers that come in my shape./quote]

Same here, I cycle in normal clothes but with MTB shoes and SPDs. Last year I commuted to a proper job, 6 - 10miles each way, was well paid so I commuted with proper cycling kit - SPD-SLs, Assos winter jacket/gilet, but this year I reckon I'd look silly turning up to lectures in lycra. My commute is only 2 miles now, so it'd take me longer to get changed than it does for the actual journey.

I might be wearing jeans, a fleece, riding a dodgy road bike that is too big for me, but that does not mean you lycra wearing commuters can assume that because of my attire I will be going slower than you and push in front of me at the lights.
    I like bikes...

    Depends:

Training for a Race/Triathlon - full PBK cycle kit or skinsuit, lots of lycra! Depends on weather!

    Weather dependant, a combination of:

    PBK waterproof gloves
    PBK mitts
    PBK arm warmers
    City of Bristol rowing lycra
    Padded undershorts
    3/4 length bib tights
    Full length Bib tights
    Green and White Rugby socks
    Sidi socks
    Black trainer socks
Sombrio waterproof trousers (with removable zip legs!)
    Endura 3/4 length shorts
    Running/Football shorts
    Wooly mitts

Pick a combination depending on weather, washing and the all important "do I look like a Wizard of Oz character".
  • It is simply unacceptable to wear any combination of rugby socks and lycra. You would look like one of the Kids from Fame - only older and with a silly beardy thing.

My colleagues believe me to be the image of the munchkin people in the Wizard of Oz film....However, I am showing my support for my Rugby team and rowing club - as they all use Green and White!

I wear shorts, t shirt, fluro builders vest, gloves and shoes. I carry a rucksack and get changed at work after a quick wash. In the rucksack are pants, socks, shirt, trousers.

My knees are still cold, so perhaps I need some tights but I can't bring myself to wear tights.
  • I use cycling gear and must admit you can get some very good fabrics these days for not a lot of cash.

My best buy are 3/4 length waterproof endura shorts. They werent cheap but I can wear them whatever the weather and they are amazingly breathable (I guess being 3/4 helps hugely here), completely waterproof and I dont get overly hot in them.

On top I wear a wicking shirt and then a hi-vis water/wind proof.

    Cheers
